It’s no secret that Dave Burd, AKA Lil Dicky, has a large college fan base with his witty punchlines and satire of the rap genre. He’s becoming the artist whose songs relate to a lot of students’ lifestyles, but are they really listening or are they only enjoying his humor? Here are the top five lines college students should apply to their lives more often.

”We ain't 'bout to go and spend money just to flex on them.”

- "$ave Dat Money" ft. Fetty Wap and Rich Homie Quan

If you don’t know this song, we’re not friends. It’s all about ways to be cheap and keep your hard-earned money. He talks about buying off-brands, wearing the same pair of jeans every day, and even taking a hit in the bathroom with one ply toilet paper in order to keep his finances in check. This line in particular should speak volumes to the students who max out their cards or their parents’ cards at the bar and online shopping. Students want to impress their peers and businesses, so there are good intentions in the lavish spending. Overall, college kids should not spend money that they don’t have, because loans are real.

“When I'm being dumb and stupid, who the *bleep* is gonna hit me with the mother*bleep*ing jerk face? Who's gonna let me know to hit my mother on her birthday?”

- "Molly" ft. Brandon Urie of Panic at the Disco

This song doesn’t get enough attention, as it’s one of his few recent songs that’s about a relationship in which he messed up. He apologizes for not making her a priority and always putting his career before her among other things. Here, he explains that she was the one person that kept him in line and made sure he was doing adult things. That’s what students should look for in a boyfriend or girlfriend. College students seem to date people who make their Instagram feeds look better instead of someone who will tell them when they make a mistake and make sure they’re acting their age rather than their shoe size.

“I ain't mean to ‘em, I prefer to show them everything that I can mean to them.”

- "Personality" ft. T-Pain

Now, this one is a great track, and it’s all about how he and T-Pain get women with only their bomb personalities. Lil Dicky discusses how even if he’s lacking in the male endowment department, he’ll still get the girl with his wit, charm, and how he likes to split her favorite appetizers. Now, this line is rather general in the sense that, yeah, kindness gets the girl, but when she’s shown how much she means, that’s when it clicks. The one part that doesn’t click with students is the latter. It’s easy to be kind to someone you’re interested in, but it’s harder to show those raw emotions to a partner. That’s where we as students need to improve, because relationships are rare and great ones are even rarer, but can all be solved with honesty and rawness.

“Sun is going down, I bet the club been going down, but I don't wanna *bleep* with nuffin less, it's something in the house and now I'm naked on the couch with raisnets in ma mouth.”

- "Staying In"

Going out Thursday through Saturday is cool and all, but so is staying in by yourself and doing relaxing things instead of going to a crowded club or bar. It’s hard to say no to friends on the weekends, but you have your bank account screaming, bills stacked on the toaster, and an entire season of "Bob’s Burgers" calling your name. When you wake up after a night out, there’s room for so much regret. You may have spent your rent that’s due in two days, lost or broke your phone whipping out smooth moves, or woke up next to a soft four. Staying in allows you to not have any of that happen, besides the phone, because we’re all cursed with them. Going out is a big part of college and rightfully so, but it’s never too early to start doing post-grad things on Friday nights.

“What's your policy on birth control? When were you last tested? Girl I gotta know, If you gon’ let me hit it raw, you gotta go. That would be crazy irresponsible”

- "Lemme Freak For Real Tho" (Outro)

It’s no secret college students are having sex, but often, the safe decisions aren’t being made. Lil Dicky is big on protection, as he’s the new face of Trojan brand condoms, and he tells you straight up that you’re dumb if you’re not using them, because they help both parties avoid STDs or STIs, and the scarier outcome: CHILDREN. Condoms may take away some of the sensations genitalia experience, however, they make the sex more enjoyable, because you know you're protected and you can do each other as you please. He also brings up getting tested, which is the single most important thing to do if you or someone you know has been getting a lot lately. Walking into a clinic is probably nerve-wracking, as well as the test itself, but an even better feeling when the results come back negative. Students need to be more responsible with their sex lives, and Lil Dicky, our generation’s saving grace, is here to help and motivate you.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies.
