The holidays have arrived! It's time to start making the plans! But wait, what about that little holiday on the third Thursday of November? It seems like for a lot of people, as soon as they have finished organizing and counting their candy from Halloween, they start putting up their Christmas trees and decorations and radio stations start blasting Christmas music every day. So again I ask, what about that holiday on the third Thursday of November? Now, in no way am I saying that Christmas is a bad holiday, but people seem to forget about Thanksgiving a lot, but personally, here is why I like Thanksgiving more than Christmas. Note, that these reasons are personal to me.
More Of A "Gathering" Than Christmas
In my experience, Christmas has always been about celebrating with just my parents and sometimes my grandparents. However, with Thanksgiving, I have had the opportunity to see my entire family from aunts and uncles, to cousins and great grandparents. With Thanksgiving, that opportunity is much easier to have because we all get to sit down at a dinner table and have a delicious meal and talk about what has been going on with everyone for the past year.
My Mother's Birthday
Now this is definitely a personal reason, but my mother's birthday is on November 24th. Now, technically that isn't always Thanksgiving, but it is a day near Thanksgiving so we always celebrate her birthday at the dinner table. Gives me more reason to respect the holiday than most other people.
The Delicious Food!
How can anyone forget about the numerous amount of good food that is served on Thanksgiving? Sure, Christmas usually has some kind of dinner as well, but Thanksgiving's dinner is more traditional and has its own set perimeters which most people follow when it comes to what is being served. By that, I mean, the food at Thanksgiving is usually predictable. Some people may look at that as a bad thing, but I look at it as something I can look forward to and already know what's coming at the same time.
Thanksgiving is criminally underrated and is often glossed over by some people. To me though, Thanksgiving will always be one of the most important times of the year.
