Why I Like Being Healthy

I'm my own version of the energizer bunny

Why I Like Being Healthy

I was a dancer for fifteen years. I would be dancing at least three times a week equaling to five hours at most. After I finished dancing my senior year of high school, I was not that active; I should've been though! When I finished up my first year of college, I signed up for a gym membership in my town and thus began my improvement to be a healthier person.

Going to the gym, whether it is for a class or just a regular workout, helps raise my energy levels to the point where I'm my own version of the energizer bunny. I also feel amazing after a great workout. Sometimes I just don't feel like going, and if I don't go to the gym for a day or two (I try to give myself two resting days), that's okay. I deserve to just rest.

My goal is to get to the gym at least four times a week, but I tend to make it five because why not?. I try to do two days of arms and legs, and two days of abs, and then Zumba on Saturday mornings. On the news a month or two ago, the broadcasters mentioned that there was a study that proved going to the gym and working out made you live longer. I believe that to be true because when you being active and using muscles, you will start living a healthy lifestyle. If people aren't active, it can lead them to getting bad cholesterol or other types of diseases, and to me, that isn't worth it.

Furthermore, in order to be healthy, you need to eat right too. You need more fruits and vegetables than chips and cookies. It is vital to keep a balance between nutritious foods and "cheat" foods. Eating healthy should occur everyday, but having a cheat day where you eat your favorite junk food is alright too. I eat very healthy, I even cut out soda and other sugary drinks. I'm all for eating salads everyday. Fruits and vegetables are part of my everyday diet. During my sophomore year of high school, my history teacher, Mrs. Tobey said, "If you eat healthy, you can eat whatever you want." Ever since that day, I go by that philosophy.

I love being healthy. It makes me feel good and confident. My energy levels are up now, and I feel like I can conquer anything that comes my way. With eating healthy and exercising, you'll feel like a million bucks because you worked so hard to get healthy. Your mind will appreciate it and so will your body.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate
Mental Floss

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It's the most wonderful time of the year! Christmas is one of my personal favorite holidays because of the Christmas traditions my family upholds generation after generation. After talking to a few of my friends at college, I realized that a lot of them don't really have "Christmas traditions" in their family, and I want to help change that. Here's a list of Christmas traditions that my family does, and anyone can incorporate into their family as well!

It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.
