Found poetry is a type of poetry in which the writer takes words or passages from other works of literature, snippets of overheard conversations, or any other source of written or oral words, and creates a poem. Inspired by old class notes I found while unpacking my room, I decided to write a found poem based on Ernest Hemingway's "A Clean, Well-Lighted Place."
Light of the café
puts boundaries on darkness;
Shadows the tree makes,
Rustling of the leaves,
Flickering of the light.
The clink of the saucer being set on the table
The sound of the waiter pushing back his chair
The clap of the shutters as they are closed
The older waiter smiles to himself.
Nothingness resides for man and waiter,
trying to navigate great unknown without boundaries;
The café is a sanctuary.
