Life360 App: A Useful Tool for College Students

With technology being one of the most prominent sources of security in today's society, many have begun using Apps as a form of security.

Life360 is an app that, in my option, is very comparable to what could be known as a '911 text.' The app is made to provide protection and awareness to its users. A user can create a “circle" that consists of a group of people that will be contacted when you alert them through the app. This alert lets your circle know that you are in trouble or in need of assistance, as well as where you are.

I think this app could be very useful to college students. No, I am not talking about having your parents track where you are at all times, although I do not think it is such a horrible idea to install the app and have a circle with your family set up if you are going on a trip or doing something new to you. I think this could be a great resource for college students because when you create circle with your friends before you go out for the night, you can feel protected that you, as well as your friends, will be notified if any of you need assistance. This way everyone is involved and aware of any situations that come up. And if you cannot find your friend and are worried about her whereabouts, you can use the Life360 app to help you.

You may ask, why not just call 911 if there was an emergency? In times of need, a person may not be able to make a phone call which means they have no way to call for help. With this app, you can press one button and a number of people will be ready to assist you. The app provides a panic button, that when pressed, the user is connected to a live advisor if they want step-by-step instructions on how to get out of the disaster. Also, the app provides crime reports of breaking news cases, as well as lists and addresses of registered sex offenders so you and your friends will know if you are in a dangerous area.

College is all about having fun creating memories, and learning and trying new and exciting things, so why not do it all and be protected at the same time. So, take a couple minutes out of the night to program your friends into your circle and help eliminate the chances of something bad happening to you or to one of your friends.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
