Life Would Stink Without My Built In Best Friends
Elise Devlin

To my people,

As time has passed and we grow up more each day, I have realized just how precious you guys are to me. A sister's relationship is different from every other relationship you'll have in life.

It is unconditional, comfortable, and truly genuine.

No matter what I do or say, I never have any doubt that you two will still be there at the end of the day, supporting me and rooting for me. You both always know what to say in any given situation, and will give me your honest opinions. There is no one else that I can go to for the amount of honesty that you guys can give me (in the best way possible, of course!).

It's nice having two people that know you even better than you know yourself sometimes. It would be hard not to, having been through it all together. Being each other's personal stylists for dances and proms, family vacations full of funny stories and jokes to look back on, shopping trips, jam out sessions on our drives to and from school, and always being each other's biggest supporters in all the sports and clubs we did.

Something I am most grateful for in life is knowing that the three of us have seen each other at our highest points, most awkward phases in the middle, and lowest points, yet never have judged one another. Instead, we just want the absolute best for each other. You are the first people I want to tell things to, and the people I share the most memories with. Put simply, life would really just stink without my built-in best friends.

Ky: To this day I still have yet to meet someone as cool and confident as you. Your fun-loving personality is contagious to whoever is around, and you always know how to turn any situation, even the most boring, into something fun. Thanks for putting up with my annoying habits of stealing clothes and always forgetting to unplug the straightener. I'm thankful we still have the friendship we do, even with you being in North Carolina while I'm living in Maryland. I've always looked up to you and that is something that will never change. Keep being the badass that you are, I'll forever be jealous of your carefree attitude on life!

Alli: No one can read me better than you. In my defense, I do have a pretty bad poker face, yet you never fail to know exactly what's going through my head. Just one look and both of us can burst out laughing. There is nothing I am more thankful for than the fact that I get to have a little sister to teach everything I have learned to. From boys, makeup, clothes, and advice in general, I appreciate our talks more than you know. Even though you are younger than me, I look up to you for your selfless and warm heart. I can't wait to see how great you are going to do in life!!!

I love you guys and can't wait to see you both so soon!

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
