On Easter Sunday, I washed my phone in the washing machine. It was tragic and heartbreaking to say the least. I put it in rice, but as of right now I've been living life without my phone without a few days. I know that people lived for thousands of years without them, and I recognize that phones are not an actual necessity for life, but it's honestly been pretty tough without it.
People my age are constantly ridiculed for their obsession with technology, but it's so hard not to be. So many things about today's society involve phones. I need to text my parents to come get me after practice, check the weather, keep my Snapchat streaks, and use my phone's calculator for my math homework. I'm pretty sure all of my pictures and notes are gone forever. Also, I really hate waiting until school the next morning to hear all the juicy details about my friends's lives. As you can see, this has been pretty tough for me,
That being said, I do understand that there is value in not being on your phone all the time. I'm not saying I'm going to be ditching my phone after this and that cell phones are evil, but I do understand the appeal of not having one.My head has been clearer, I'm a little less distracted, and I don't have to worry about using up all of my monthly data. Perhaps what I've learned is that everything in life requires balance. Cell phones are very convenient things to have, but I need to remember that they aren't always necessary. Just like everything, they have their pros and cons. Maybe when I get a new phone I won't be quite so attached to it, and maybe I won't wash it in the laundry again either. We'll see what happens, I have a whole life ahead of me.
