Growing Up With Siblings

Because you can't live with them, and you can't live without them

It does not matter whether you are an older, middle, or younger sibling because chances are you can appreciate how growing up with siblings can be both a blessing and a curse. Tons of memories and moments are shared, some better than others. At the end of the day though it is your siblings that are there for you no matter what. If you can relate to the following then you know you grew up with siblings.

1. It is no secret that at some point you and your siblings have competed to be the "favorite child", even though your mom claims she loves everyone "equally".

2. When no one can agree on a TV show the living room suddenly turns into World War Three.

Covering the television box with your hands so the remote didn't work, or standing by the television turning the TV off every time your sibling turned it back on with the remote, and sometimes wrestling for the remote occurred as well.

3. You are automatically given best friends forever.

Since you have known them the longest they know you the best and will always be there to listen to you and offer advice. You guys have each others' backs especially if someone is giving you or your sibling trouble.

4. Just because they love you does not mean they will always be nice to you.

Since you guys are stuck with each other for life this allows your siblings to tell it like it is, and sometimes the truth hurts.

5. Siblings have the ability to bring out your weird side no matter what.

Whether it is in public or in the privacy of the bedroom you share.

6. Privacy is not a thing, especially for me who has two sisters.

Coming into the bathroom to brush your teeth while one sibling is in the shower might as well be a routine, boundaries do not exist.

7. It's an unspoken rule that you and your siblings don't like the same people.

Whether it's crazy family members or someone from school, it is one of the few things you will agree on.

8. At least once in your life, you and your siblings were forced to take an embarrassing Christmas picture in matching outfits.

9. It comes with the territory that if you have siblings it is a guarantee there will be days you will want to kill each other and wish you were an only child.

10. No matter how many times they blame your dad you know they are responsible for stealing your leftover food after being told "don't touch."

11. Growing up with siblings has taught you responsibility.

If you are the oldest then you are looked at as the role model and are expected to guide your younger siblings, if you are the younger sibling then you have someone to look up to and help you grow as a person. Either way, you both have learned from each other.

12. They will be there for you through thick and thin no matter what.

They will be your "person" throughout life.

I don't know where I'd be without my sisters, even though we drive each other crazy I know I would be lost without them.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.
