Life With A New Kitten

You gotta be kitten be!

I always forget how much fun it is to have a new kitten in the house... One day your older cats are relaxing peacefully at home, and the next, they're being chased after by a tiny, playful ball of fur. And kittens are cute yes, but they are far more energetic and mischievous than those wide-eyed fuzz balls surrounded by flowers in tacky calendars. That's not to say they aren't still the most lovable creatures on earth.

My family recently adopted a kitten from a local shelter (something everyone reading this should do, they all deserve a home), and he is quite possibly the cutest maniac I've ever seen. He's the smaller and more playful version of our oldest cat, whose all black with gold eyes. The little kitten's name was originally Salem, but we decided to go with Thackery Binx, after every one's Halloween favorite, Hocus Pocus. He's only been with us for a few days, but he already has a dozen nicknames...from Binxy, to Brussel Sprout, they range between normal and really freakin' weird. I don't care though, because he'd be adorable no matter what I call him.

Binx is a very special kitty to our house because he's the first kitten we've brought into the family since losing our last angel. As I've mentioned before in these articles, my last kitten, Oliver, passed away very suddenly and it was hard on my family. I made a deal with my parents that if I made Dean's List two semesters in a row, I could get another kitten. And not to brag, but here I am with my new little kitten, and he's so much more to me than an award for my academics. I feel a bit guilty though, because Binx is the kitten who has to go through constant comparisons to Oliver. And although he doesn't know it, I think we all kind of expected Binx, or any new kitten for that matter, to be a little less special than Ollie was. But Binx is proving us wrong in more ways than one.

For starters, Binx was the first kitten I saw at the sheltar and I fell in love immediately. He's been adjusting to our home very nicely, and tries his best to make the other animals like him. He's playful, and energetic, and he loves to sleep on my chest and be close with us. All in all, he's such a cutie pie!

These past few days with my new kitten have been beyond fun and were filled with cuddles and love. I'm taking as many pictures and videos as possible to document this little guys life because I know I'll really miss these kitten days when he grows up. Until then, I'll be enjoying life with my new kitten and hope that everyone has the chance to enjoy having a little furry rascal of one kind or another in their home, there's nothing better!

Summer: a time (usually) free from school work and a time to relax with your friends and family. Maybe you go on a vacation or maybe you work all summer, but the time off really does help. When you're in college you become super close with so many people it's hard to think that you won't see many of them for three months. But, then you get that text saying, "Hey, clear your schedule next weekend, I'm coming up" and you begin to flip out. Here are the emotions you go through as your best friend makes her trip to your house.

Syllabus Week As Told By Kourtney Kardashian

Feeling Lost During Syllabus Week? You're Not Alone!

Kourtney Kardashian

Winter break is over, we're all back at our respective colleges, and the first week of classes is underway. This is a little bit how that week tends to go.

The professor starts to go over something more than the syllabus

You get homework assigned on the first day of class

There are multiple group projects on the syllabus

You learn attendance is mandatory and will be taken every class

Professor starts chatting about their personal life and what inspired them to teach this class

Participation is mandatory and you have to play "icebreaker games"

Everybody is going out because its 'syllabus week' but you're laying in bed watching Grey's Anatomy

Looking outside anytime past 8 PM every night of this week

Nobody actually has any idea what's happening this entire week

Syllabus week is over and you realize you actually have to try now...or not

Now it's time to get back into the REAL swing of things. Second semester is really here and we all have to deal with it.

panera bread

Whether you specialized in ringing people up or preparing the food, if you worked at Panera Bread it holds a special place in your heart. Here are some signs that you worked at Panera in high school.

1. You own so many pairs of khaki pants you don’t even know what to do with them

Definitely the worst part about working at Panera was the uniform and having someone cute come in. Please don’t look at me in my hat.

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.
