How To Face Rejection Healthily

The more trials, the better.

Recently I’ve been questioning a lot of the rejection in my life. My mind has caused me to re-open chapters of my life I thought I had gotten over, or at least, gotten tired of reading. However, my mind will not cease its wandering, and the hurt from these rejections has been snowballing. I have yet to see purpose in these struggles.

Then I heard the analogy of a golf ball, and why your life should look like one.

Until the early 1900s, golf balls were either smooth or had raised indentations. Then some random inventor discovered that golf balls went farther with indentations in the form of dimples.

I imagine this anonymous inventor discovered this by hitting his golf ball (accidentally?) off a tree a few times, giving both nicks to the ball and his confidence. Thanks to his possible poor aim and lack of talent, he realized golf balls now could be controlled better and now could be hit with backspin and the ability to bring the ball to a stop faster.

The dimples didn’t inhibit the ball, they helped the ball get to where it was going better.

All the rejections I’ve faced, mistakes I’ve made, and sadness I’ve felt haven’t been destroying my journey, they’ve been preparing me to go farther and do more incredible things than I could have done had I not faced those trials.

It’s so easy to view these scars as inhibitions, or experiences we will never get over. However, when you look back, know that all those hard times or struggles you’ve gone through are being redeemed in your life, carrying you farther in your swing.

However ugly they may seem, each one is helping and preparing you to overcome the next challenge and go farther than you’ve ever imagined.

It’s so easy to dwell in our sadness with the hope of never overcoming it. It’s ugly and it’s hard to see where to go from the hard spot you’re in. Our lives seem to be impossible to control, but if you’re anything like a golf ball, the more indentations you have, the farther your flight will be. Who knows where you will end up.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
