Remember when we were in high school and summer meant actually not having an responsibilities besides getting really tan and hanging out with your friends? Now summer means working nearly 40 hours a week without getting paid because as college students we have to pay our dues. Welcome to the lovely life of summer internships.
When you first start, it's sort of like your first day of a school. You're nervous, eager, and ready to learn. The job is completely new and you aren't entirely sure what to expect from the experience. But, you want to make a good first impression so you come into work ready for whatever might come your way.
Because you're the newbie, it seems like everyone wants you to get a little taste of everything. It can be difficult to manage all the elements of the job at first and it feels like you're going a little crazy. Whenever one of your bosses needs your assistance you need to be ready to help in any way you can, which can get exhausting.
By the end of the summer, you are finally comfortable in your role and starting to really get the hang of things. Don't worry though, that feeling won't last too long because right when you're starting to get comfortable is when your internship is over and it's time to head back to school for another semester.
Enjoy your summer internships!
