Everyone who has graduated high school has had the interrogation on what they are doing with their life. There is the joke that if we had a nickel for every time we get asked about college we'd be able to pay for it. Sometimes that seems very true. And it is not only those in college, but everyone who is on the verge of actually being considered an adult. Everyone seems to want to know exactly how they are going to go about doing that.
This time of the year, many of us late teens or early twenty-year-olds are heading back to college, and the newly graduated post high schoolers are heading out for the first time. So this is the time where so many people will ask: "Are you going back to school?" "When do you start school again?" "What are you going for again?" These can sometimes be rather difficult questions.
For me, these interrogations, as I like to call them, actually help me to know that I have chosen what is right for me. Because when I tell people what I am going to school for, I am excited to tell them... most of the time. I think anyone who get asked about school a lot has a little spiel memorized to call up in answer of the questions. I've gotten to the point that I am proud of that little spiel I have.
What this does though, is make some feel like they aren't making the right choices, or that their choices aren't the right ones. I don't really think this is right, because it is your life and you have all the control to make your own choices and do what you want to do. And you shouldn't have to feel pressure that you aren't making the right decisions.
There is no way to get people to stop asking. But you can think differently about why they are asking the questions. Some people ask the question because they are curious, or maybe just snoopy and want to know to know. Others might want to know because they want to make conversation, and you normally do that by asking about life. A lot of people ask because they care. They want to know how you are going to go into this life and make a way for yourself. So think about it that way. When you get asked those questions that make you second guess what you want to go into, you just need to realize that people ask because they care. They want to know about you and what you do.
Don't let their questions make you question what you are doing. Think about how you feel about it. If you are happy and confident with what you are doing, then stay with it. If you are not sure about what you are going into, don't let those sometimes pitying looks get to you. You'll figure it out. I know you will, eventually. Everyone does. And when you figure it out, when you get to what you are meant to do, you'll do great.
The most important thing you should remember is that God is with you, and He will get you to where you need to be, wherever that might be. So trust in Him and know that He is working in your life in ways that you might not even realize yet. God provides all things we have in this life. Never forget that. Always keep it in mind. God will always work things to our good.
