The best friends are often the friends that one makes through music. Musicians are bonded by a common passion and by the comradery of an ensemble. But perhaps the most powerful force that brings musicians together is the shared experience of the emotional roller coaster that is the music curriculum. Here are 18 experiences that every musically inclined student can easily relate to.

1. When you have a lesson but you haven't practiced

Let's be honest, a lot of our sight-reading skills came from winging it during lessons.

2. How it feels when you get a solo

Wow, I'll actually be heard for once!

3. When you get a bad score at an audition

I didn't want that spot anyway.

4. How it feels when someone plays during a pause in the music

How dare you ruin such a beautiful moment!

5. When you have to wear a stupid outfit and have no choice but to rock it

We're used to it by now anyway.

6. When the director is doing sectionals and you know that yours is next

The cellos just got absolutely roasted... God give me strength.

7. How brass behaves during rehearsal

Every. Trumpet. Section. Ever.

7. When someone tells a music pun but you're the only one laughing

We can't help it, they're reedy funny!

8. When December comes around and you can't wait for the director to roll out the Christmas carols

They never get old.

9. When a person in your section keeps playing a passage incorrectly but they're so sure that they're right

No matter what you do, you just can't convince them that they're wrong.

10. When you've practiced a passage a thousand times and still can't get it right

Technique will be the death of us.

11. How you feel when you first get a new piece vs. after you've played it for the 100th time

No matter how good it is, every song gets old eventually (except for the aforementioned Christmas carols).

12. Calculating your future salary

Let's hope that our future kids won't want to go to college.

13. When you see a video of a child prodigy playing a Mozart concerto flawlessly

I might as well just quit now.

14. When it's summer break and you're not in any ensembles

No rehearsals? Nothing to practice for? What am I supposed to do with myself?

15. After finally finishing tedious theory homework

Curse you, counterpoint...

16. When you overhear someone talking about your instrument

Did I hear someone say oboe?!

17. When you see your part and it's impossibly hard

I'm not crying, I just have something in my eye...

18. When you're tight with your section

We'll get through this together.

In honor of Mother’s Day, I have been thinking of all the things my mom does for my family and me. Although I couldn’t write nearly all of them, here are a few things that moms do for us.

They find that shirt that’s right in front of you, but just you can’t seem to find.

10 Reasons To Thank Your Best Friend

Take the time to thank that one friend in your life you will never let go of.

Thank You on wooden blocks

1. Thank you for being the one I can always count on to be honest.

A true friend will tell you if the shirt is ugly, or at least ask to borrow it and "accidentally" burn it.

2. Thank you for accepting me for who I am.

A best friend will love you regardless of the stale french fries you left on the floor of your car, or when you had lice in 8th grade and no one wanted to talk to you.

Do as I say, not as I do.

Your eyes widen in horror as you stare at your phone. Beads of sweat begin to saturate your palm as your fingers tremble in fear. The illuminated screen reads, "Missed Call: Mom."

Growing up with strict parents, you learn that a few things go unsaid. Manners are everything. Never talk back. Do as you're told without question. Most importantly, you develop a system and catch on to these quirks that strict parents have so that you can play their game and do what you want.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!
