The Life Of A Netflix Addict

Next step: Netflix Anonymous

The Life Of A Netflix Addict

Discovering Netflix last year was basically one of the best things that ever happened to me. As sad as it may sound to some, it is completely true. There is nothing better than binge watching a season, or if you're like me, a whole series on Netflix on a rainy Sunday afternoon. Some people just keep up with their favorite show on Netflix, others may use it for movie purposes. There are a few way to decipher those people from people like me: Netflix Addicts.

1. Picking Netflix over friends

Yes, I have the greatest friends in the world. But yes, I do choose Netflix over them from time to time. My friends know that I am the one to go to if they are ever wanting to go out to eat, but they also know that there is no possible way of getting me out of bed if I am watching Grey's Anatomy. Luckily, most of my friends can agree with this statement, but they will also tell you that I am the worst when it comes to binge watching.

2. Watching an entire series in a short amount of time is normal for you

I watched ten seasons of Grey's in a month. There, I said it and I'm proud. It is almost impossible to stop watching when the episodes just keep playing on their own. And with that being said, there is not a question more offensive than when Netflix asks you "are you still there?" The answer is never no. You fit into the category of addict if you say on a regular basis "just one more episode." We all know it's never just one more.

3. You're a repeat offender

You've seen all the good series and watched just about every movie, but you're still coming back for more. Repeat offenders are the best kind of Netflix watchers. You love a show so much that you are willing to rewatch it again and again. These are shows like Grey's Anatomy of course, and probably Gossip Girl. They're long seasons with 45 minute episodes, but you're up for the challenge of committing to the restart. Then there are shows like Friends and How I Met Your Mother, where picking a random episode is always acceptable. There is never a time you aren't watching these shows.

4. Netflix > responsibilities

This one is the most dangerous, but the easiest to understand. Is there anyone out there that would rather do homework than watch The Wolf of Wall Street again?

5. A whole day has passed and you didn't even realize

The easiest task when it comes to watching Netflix is wasting time. Starting in the morning and not realizing it's been eight hours is one of the best feelings to a Netflix addict.

6. Believing that you are part of the show

Addicts who watch daily are committed. They blow off all of their friends and spend most days is bed. So yes, the cast of HIMYM are my friends. Yes, I believe I am a doctor at Seattle Grace Hospital. I laugh when they laugh, and cry when they cry. This is a dangerous territory to be in, but in reality, isn't that the goal of the writer of the show?

Netflix is my best friend. Netflix will never let me down. Just add pizza into this mix and life will be complete. My name is Abby Konyak and I am addicted to Netflix.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
