Shonda Rhimes, thank you.

Life Lessons Grey's Anatomy Has Taught Us

Watching Greys Anatomy every Thursday night with was my tradition since it first aired on ABC. The older I got the more drama the show stirred and the more I started to realize the show puts out more than just an addicting plot. Shonda Rhimes is throwing some pretty sentimental life lessons at us. The lessons range from love to the importance of mental health to awareness of Alzheimers. This show brings to surface a lot of hard subjects that would otherwise not be talked about on popular televison. I think that we can all relate to the lessons and quotes that come from all characters and the show as a whole.

When it comes to big decisions Richard taught us that "it's good to be scared. It means you have something to lose".

Derek reminded us that "I'm a human being. I make mistakes. I'm flawed. We all are".

And even Mark gave us one last life lesson on how to deal with love. "I want you to promise me something: If you love someone, you tell 'em. Even if your scared that it'll cause problems, even if your scared that it will burn your life to the ground. You say it, and you say it loud."

Christina broke the internet on how we view our best friends when she told Meredith "You are my person. You will always be my person".

Derek taught us to "overcome the notion that you must be regular. It robs you of the chance to be extraordinary".

We all sat in silence when Meredith dropped the biggest life lesson on us when she said, "You don't have to be tough every minute of the day. It's okay to let down your guard. In fact, there are moments when it's the best thing you could possibly do".

Meredith and Christina also taught us the most successful way to deal with stress is to "shut up. Dance it out".

Meredith taught us the connection between feeling love and expressing it while you could. "I think it's important to take the time to tell the people you love how much you love them while they can hear you".

Lastly, and most important this one from Meredith goes out to all my college peers trying to figure out life the best way you can and doubting every decision you have to make. "We spend our whole lives worrying about the future, planning for the future, trying to predict the future. As if figuring it out will somehow cushion the blow. But the future is always changing. The future is the home of our deepest fears and our wildest hopes. But one thing is certain: When it finally reveals itself, the future is never the way we imagined it."

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.
