Life Lessons 'Rugrats' Taught Us

If you're a '90s kid, then you know that we had the best cartoons ever. No doubt about it. "Rugrats" happens to be one of these cartoons. While watching Angelica Pickles find new ways to manipulate the babies was amusing, their adventurous afternoons were always something to look forward to, as I would learn the importance of them later on in life. Looking back, I can say that watching "Rugrats" as a kid was solely for my enjoyment. Now, I realized that these episodes had great meaning and I wish to share them with you.

Rugrats Taught Us:

That Having a Balance in Life is Necessary

Chuckie's guardian angel is an example of how we all need a balance in our lives. Too much negativity can be a bad thing. We all need a positive person to push us through the hardest situations. Even having a person to correct us when we're wrong or support us when we're right can help. A voice of reason is always necessary to motivate us, or to let us know to get our head back in the game.

Being Comfortable in Your Own Skin (Literally)

In this episode, Tommy convinced Phil and Lil to get "nakey" after seeing Spike refuse to wear clothes. Chuckie hated this idea, and he was very critical about Tommy's idea of getting naked. The lesson in this episode is to be yourself, regardless of what anyone thinks. All the characters also had their own personalities. Chuckie seemed to be often scared, Tommy was adventurous, Angelica was self-centered and bossy, and Suzie was loving and caring. They all were different, but they embraced who they were. Thats something we, as humans should do more often instead of doubting our abilities and putting ourselves down.

Negative Actions Come with Consequences

In life, we will all make bad decisions and our choices may not always be great. We also face obstacles which may put us in a bad positions. Most importantly, we learn from them. Even as babies, the squad learned right from wrong. As young adults, we have to be responsible and know that all actions comes with consequences.

Its Okay to Take A Risk

Are you really living if you haven't risked anything yet? For the Rugrats, every adventure came with a risk. In real life, some risks are worth taking. Don't be afraid to make life exciting and try things you've never done before. Be adventurous. Step out on faith. Do something different.

Oh and never forget "A baby's gotta do what a baby's gotta do"

The Value of A Good Friendship

Through thick and thin, the Rugrats always stood (even crawled) together. No matter how many times Angelica bossed them around, how many times Chuckie backed out because of fear, or how many times Phil and Lil disagreed with Tommy, they still managed to keep a strong bond. Growing up, I think its fair to say that we have all lost and gained friends, but that's what helped us value the true meaning of friendship. Besides, who wouldn't love to have good friend who can be honest with you, and do stupid things with you?

To save the best for last, Rugrats taught us

To Value the Words from the Wise

Grab a juicebox and listen to the wise words from Grandpa. You know that they say, the older you are, the wiser you become. What better way is there to learn life lessons than those told by the old and wise? They've experienced it all, and their teachings will only benefit you. Although we don't like to listen to Grandma or Grandpa's advice, we have to admit that everything they say is usually right.

10 Thoughts Of A 5th Year Senior

What about those of us who don't do it all in four years?

"College will be the best four years of your life" is a phrase that we have all heard growing up. College is painted as a magical place to us while we are in high school. A place you go to learn, meet your best friends and probably have the time of your life while all of this is going down. Four whirlwind years, where everything that you've known changes and you start to learn what it means to live on your own, have a job, etc. But what about those of us who don't do this all in four years? Major changes, hard courses, switching schools, career paths changing, these are just a handful of factors that could extend your four years to five, six or seven. There is nothing wrong with taking extra time to graduate, but returning as a fifth-year is a little different. Most of your best friends have most likely graduated and moved and while you may be one of the oldest undergraduates on campus, you might feel as awkward as a freshmen. A world that became home and comfortable to you is still there but it's slightly different than you've known it to be and you have to find a groove to fall into. These are thoughts you'll have as you look ahead to returning to your college campus, with a victory lap planned.

Aubrey Plaza is one of my favorite humans in Hollywood. She's honest, blunt, unapologetic, and hilarious. I just started my sophomore year of college, and found that some of her best moments can accurately describe the start of the school year.

1. When your advisor tells you that you should declare a major soon.

2. Seeing the lost and confused freshmen and remembering that was you a short year ago, and now being grateful you know the ins and outs of the campus.

3. Going to the involvement fair to sign up for more clubs knowing that you are already too involved.

4. When you actually do the reading required for the first class.

5. Seeing your friends for the first time since last semester.

6. When you're already drowning in homework during syllabus week.

7. Realizing you don't have the same excitement for classes as you did as a freshman.

8. Going home and seeing people from high school gets weirder the older you get.

Dear Mom,

You took care of me and my brothers our entire lives and you still continue to! I will not be able to truly grasp all of the hard work that you put into this family until I create my own one day. But, I know that there are plenty of times I forgot to give you a simple thank you or an appreciative smile. I thank you for everything that you have done for me and will continue to do for me. Here are some examples of those times where you had my back and I forgot to pat your back for saving me:

College is hard. As people ages 18-22, we’re just trying to figure out what we’re doing with our lives, our careers, our eating habits, exercise routines, sleep patterns, and other necessities for adult life. We definitely don’t take proper care of ourselves; it’s basically impossible when we have essays, tests and readings due and somehow we’re supposed to eat right, exercise and sleep. We’re doomed to get sick. I have zero experience in science but when I get sick there are certain things I do to make myself better.
