>***** SPOILER ALERT*****
If you have not seen NBC’s hit show The Office, please get off this article and log into your Netflix account to enjoy 9 seasons of laughter, tears, and true heartfelt emotion. If you have had the chance to watch the wonderful television show, please continue reading, for I have a few insights about what this show means to me.
Let me start of by giving some background to my story. During my junior year of High School I had heard about the show from a few friends and my first impression was that it was stupid. I mean a show about people working at a paper company just seemed idiotic to me. Then, during my senior year of High School one of my very close and trustworthy friends convinced me to start watching it. Brandon, if you are reading this, thanks a million!
The Office is the reason I survived my senior year of high school, which was a very tough year for me. But by far, one of the greatest characteristics this show has is its ability to teach you so many valuable life lessons in a way that’s easy to understand. Here are some life lessons I picked up from my long nights of Netflix binge-watching this show:
1. The Importance of Fire Safety.
I know this isn’t a super sentimental life lesson, but seeing Dwight create a fake fire in the office just to prove how important it is to be prepared had me dying of laughter.
2. How to Properly preform CPR.
I am actually CPR certified, but in the class I took not once did they mention this amazing aid: When giving someone CPR, pump their chest to the beat of the song “Staying Alive” by the Bee Gees. It really works!
3. Never to Give Up on Your Dreams
Dwight’s long life dream was to be manager of the Scranton Branch, actually his first was to be a dictator. Being manager was his second life goal. LOL. In he end of the show all his hard work pays off and he finally gets what he wants.
4. Love is NOT dead.
Following the love story between Jim and Pam really gives me hope. Watching them fall in love and get married with kids is so B-E-A-U-T-I-F-U-L.
5. Friendships stem from the most unlikely of people.
Neither Pam nor Dwight ever would of thought they would end up best friends. This showed me to give people chances and never be quick to judge. I am friends with people I never thought I would be friends with thanks to this show.
6. Don’t take any moment for granted.
My favorite quote from this show was spoken during the final episode: “ I wish there was a way to know you’re in the good old days before you’ve actually left them” –Andy.
