7 Life Lessons I've Learned From Watching RuPaul's 'Drag Race'

Over a year ago a friend recommended that i watched this show that she had recently started watching and told me that I would love it. I listened to her and started watching it and quickly became obsessed with it. The show that I'm talking about is called RuPaul's "Drag Race." Flash forward to now and it has become one of my favorite television shows, I've probably watched every season at least twice. It's a very popular and entertaining show with lots of drama and laughs just like any other reality show, but I think that another reason that people are drawn to this show is the overall message of love and acceptance that RuPaul preaches. I think that I've learned a lot from the show and have become a much more open minded and accepting person because of it. This article will list seven life lessons that I've learned from the show.

1. "Were all born naked and the rest is drag." --RuPaul

This is one of RuPaul's most iconic quotes from his song "Born Naked." It's a very inspiring quote in only a few words, but he is basically saying that we all start off the same when were born, but for the rest of our lives, it's our job to make the most of it and be whoever or whatever we want to be.

2. "Water off a duck's back." --Jinx Monsoon

Something that season five winner, Jinx Monsoon said to herself before every critique from the judges. Basically, just let some things roll off of your mind like water off a duck's back.

3. "Unless they're paying your bills pay them bitches no mind." --RuPaul

In life there will be lots of people who just want to be negative towards you and try to bring you down, but it's important to not pay attention to them because their negativity doesn't affect you or your life.

4. "Walk into the room purse first." --Bob the Drag Queen

Always walk into a room "purse first" or just with some confidence and all eyes will be on you.

5. "Don't get bitter, just get better." --Alyssa Edwards

If someone in your life is trying to bring you down don't just sulk in your anger and do nothing you have to get up and be the best you can to prove those people wrong.

6. "I want people to realize, it's OK to make mistakes; it's OK to fall down. Get up, look sickening, and make them eat it!" --Latrice Royale

If you fail at something or just aren't doing well that's perfectly fine, don't just immediately give up on it. You have to keep practicing, and going with it so you can be successful and let the haters eat it.

7. "If you can't love yourself love yourself how the hell you gonna love yourself." --Rupaul

Probably one of the most iconic quotes from the show said by RuPaul herself at the end of every episode right before the credits roll. In life you have to learn to love every part of yourself before you can love someone else.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

For those long nights that turn into mornings when the struggle is real.

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

Thanksgiving break is over and Christmas is just around the corner and that means, for most college students, one hellish thing — finals week. It's the one time of year in which the library becomes over populated and mental breakdowns are most frequent. There is no way to avoid it or a cure for the pain that it brings. All we can do is hunker down with our books, order some Dominos, and pray that it will all be over soon. Luckily, we are not alone in this suffering. To prove it, here are just a few of the many deranged thoughts that go through a college student's mind during finals week.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.
