"Parks and Recreation" is arguably the best series known to mankind, and while it has come to a bittersweet end, it has left some long lasting memories that remind us about what is important in life. While an eclectic staff of a homeless shoe shiner, an over the top enthusiast of politics, and a business entrepreneur may seem like a recipe for disaster in a government office (and often times it is), it pays homage to the everyday little lessons we sometimes forget.

Treat Yo’ Self

While saving money is important sometimes some retail therapy is just what the doctor ordered. A $300 pair of shoes? Treat yo self. That sixth cupcake? Treat yo self. An eight-hour nap? Treat yo self.

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day

Yes, our parents (as well as everyone under god’s green earth) have been telling us since the end of time that breakfast is the most important meal of the day, but we aren’t going to listen unless Leslie Knope tells us.

Best friends are a necessity

Family comes first, but best friends come second. A best friend is one of the most important things a person can have.

Be confident

Confidence is the key to success, whether you are rocking the crocs, or giving a presentation on a topic you have spent three months researching.

Lead your own lifestyle

Changing, as a person is important, we can’t wear side ponytails and knee-high socks forever, but changing for others, especially for someone you have a crush on is never a good thing. You will be stuck with a permanent migraine pretending to like the heavy metal rock bands.

Sometimes you have to work a little to ball a lot

It is as simple as that, you have to put the work in to be able to relax and enjoy.

Have standards when it comes to dating

While having standards too high leads you only able to date Ryan Reynolds, making sure you know what you want out of a relationship, and a significant other, is important.

Lead a healthy lifestyle

I might be the queen of Cheeto Puffs, but I also know that taking care of my body is important, although I can’t attribute Parks & Rec for teaching me that (mostly because if I learned it was important to be healthy at the age of 19 we would be in some deep trouble), the show definitely reminds me that eating a corn dog for breakfast might not be the healthiest choice.

Be passionate

Big or small, whatever it is you’re doing in life, make sure you’re passionate about it.

Always do your best

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.
