Yes, Grey's Anatomy taught me more than how to successfully complete an appendectomy.

1. It’s okay to be afraid.

“It’s good to be scared. It means you still have something to lose.” -- Richard

2. You’re going to make mistakes… and it’s going to be okay.

“You did a terrible thing. It doesn’t mean you’re a terrible person.” -- Dr. Bailey

3. Be a badass and don't care what anyone thinks about it.

“Have some fire. Be unstoppable. Be a force of nature. Be better than anyone here, and don’t give a damn what anyone thinks.” -- Cristina Yang

4. Your needs always, always, always come before a boy's wants.

"Don’t let what he wants eclipse what you need. He’s very dreamy, but he’s not the sun, you are.” -- Cristina Yang

5. Having a beautiful mind is so much better than being “pretty.”

“Oh, screw beautiful. I’m brilliant. If you want to appease me, compliment my brain.” -- Cristina Yang

6. It’s okay to be a dark and twisted Meredith Grey sometimes. You don’t always have to be a bright and shiny Izzie Stevens.

“Not everybody has to be happy all the time. That’s not mental health. That’s crap.” -- Meredith Grey

7. You can’t wait for other people to fix you. Do it yourself, even if it isn't your fault that you're broken in the first place.

“I make no apologies for how I chose to repair what you broke.” -- Meredith Grey

8. A lifetime with the person you love is all you could ever ask for.

“I want to marry you. I want to have kids with you. I want to build us a house. I want to settle down and grow old with you. I want to die when I’m 110 years old, in your arms… I want a lifetime.” -- Derek

9. And you can't really help who that person is.

"We can't help who we fall in love with." -- Meredith Grey

10. Speak up and tell people how you really feel... They might die in a plane crash or get killed in a hospital shooting. You never know.

“If you love someone, you tell them… You say it and you say it loud.” --Sloan

11. You have to at least try.

“It may be small and it may by risky, but it’s a chance.” -- Arizona

12. Sometimes people won't love you the way you love them... and that's not your fault.

“You didn’t love her. You just didn’t want to be alone. Or maybe, maybe she was good for your ego or maybe she made you feel better about your miserable life, but you didn’t’ love her because you don’t destroy the person that you love.” -- Callie

13. Don’t quit.

“You don’t just give up. It’s lame.” -- Alex Karev

14. Sometimes you have to do what’s best for you no matter how much it hurts.

"I have to walk away from you, for me." -- Jackson Avery

“I love you, and I’m always going to love you. But I don’t want to love you. I want to be happy.” -- Lexie Grey

15. Your person is your person and there is really no other phrase for it.

"If I murdered someone, she’s the person I’d call to help me drag the corpse across the living room floor. She’s my person.” -- Cristina Yang
