As we get ready to settle into the Black, White and Red Movie Theatre to anxiously await the revival of what we hope will be the greatest television revival of this generation; let’s look back at the many lessons we’ve already learned in Stars Hollow.
The best people are a little crazy.
Nothing was more endearing than the neighborly community of Stars Hollow. Whether it was Babette gossiping while pushing her dog in a stroller, Mrs. Kim’s latest tofu-infused meal to force feed Lane or anything Kirk does, every character brought a special something to the town. While Luke always rolled his eyes at the eccentric town, everyone knew he would never choose to live anywhere else.
Conflict doesn’t have to ruin relationships.
At some point in the series, Emily Gilmore made every fan want to rip her pearl earrings from her head for some of the things she does (*cough* try to come between one of the greatest TV couples of all time *cough*).
While her actions do not always come off the way she intended them to, she really wanted nothing but the best for her daughter and granddaughter.
Even though getting Lorelai and Rory to go to Friday night dinner was often like pulling teeth, the seven seasons of ups and downs between Emily and her daughter did bring them closer in the end.
Junk food should always be encouraged.
In a world of photo-editing apps, diet pills, and body shaming, it was nice to have a strong female lead whose typical dinner consisted of something cheesy with a side of fries (and bottomless coffee, of course). While it may be good to throw a salad in there, there is something to say about the way she eats what she wants without counting calories or planning every meal to a T.
Going to work should be enjoyable.
Fran Weston’s funeral is the only time I will actively cheer for the death of a little old lady. After witnessing Lorelai and Sookie’s tireless passion for their work, it was hard not to be excited at the thought they would finally be able to open their own inn.
While there were many late nights and financial struggles, Lorelai and Sookie’s perseverance further demonstrated how much they loved their work. Even Michele, who claimed to resent the two ladies, joined in on the fun at The Dragonfly.
There is nothing more important than family.
Family, especially the eclectic mixture of families in "Gilmore Girls," is the epitome of the phrase “can’t live with em’, can’t live without em’.” In the first episode, Lorelai puts aside her pride and calls her parents to ask for tuition money so that Rory can get a better education.
Even though much stress went into this phone call, Emily and Richard came through and paid for Rory to attend Chilton and later, Yale. When Christopher calls helpless after Sherry takes off for Paris, Lorelai drops everything to go help take care of the daughter Christopher left her to have.
While everyone watched in dismay as Mrs. Kim cut her daughter out of her life after Lane joined a band, when her daughter’s dreams started to fail, she came out of the woodwork and planned a tour for Hep Alien to keep their music alive. Every family in "Gilmore Girls" experienced some sort of strain throughout the years, but they all came together when they needed one another.
