Life Lessons From a Teenage Girl

Just because I am a teenage girl does not mean that I know nothing about life. In 19 years, I have learned more than most people do their entire lifetime. The main ones that I have discovered so far are some of the bigger ones that most people struggle to understand. So, let's just dive right in: You need to love yourself before you can expect anyone else to love you. You will never truly be happy until you are happy with yourself. You need to be confident in the person you are and the person you will become. I struggle with the last one a great deal because I am not totally comfortable with my body, but I'm getting there.

Please do not read these lessons and just forget about them, these are important things that everyone needs to figure out. Just because it seems as if everyone around you is getting married or having kids, does not mean that you are falling behind in life. You are simply enjoying your young years and figuring out who you are. You do not need to have a husband and kids and the perfect job by the time you are 22. Do not let your emotions control your actions. Sometimes you need to calm down and then act. There is no need to stress out over little things. Everything will work itself out in the end.

Have respect for people and their things. You will almost always get treated how you treat others. If you are rude to people, people will be rude to you. Always remember that you are not entitled to anything. Not a job, not a school, not a car. You have to earn everything, you do not deserve to have things handed to you without working for them. Do not got through life expecting to receive things without working for them.

You will feel like you are alone at some point and like you have no one to go to, but there is always someone waiting to help you out. You are never totally alone. You need to know how to make yourself laugh, even when you think your world is ending. Crying will not solve anything, and neither will laughing, but you will look better laughing than you will crying. It is okay to cry, but do not become a cry baby. These are just a few of the things I have learned so far in my short time living. Hopefully you learned something from this, because knowing these things helps me everyday.

Singing is something I do all day, every day. It doesn't matter where I am or who's around. If I feel like singing, I'm going to. It's probably annoying sometimes, but I don't care -- I love to sing! If I'm not singing, I'm probably humming, sometimes without even realizing it. So as someone who loves to sing, these are some of the feelings and thoughts I have probably almost every day.
