I'm so thankful for my once random roommates who have become people I go to for advice or even a little motivation throughout my day. I've only known them for a few months, but I feel like they've already taught me so much through their actions and words.
1. Be Brutally Honest (politely)
I'm a sensitive person, so it may hurt my feelings for a few minutes if you say you don't like my outfit. But in the long run, I appreciate honesty coming from a good place. I'd much rather have a friend tell me I'm not my best self or have been making poor choices than telling me I'm always right. Honesty shows people you truly care about their well-being.
2. Resolve Conflicts Right Away
Every time I tell my best friends I'm upset with someone, they urge me to confront the person right away. Even if you need a day or so to cool off from a fight, it's better to deal with the issue at hand sooner than later. Don't waste time being upset when you could spend it focusing your energy on more positive things in your life.
3. Don't Take Everything so Seriously
It can be easy to beat yourself up about an embarrassing moment or awkward conversation- but if it won't matter in 5 years, it's probably not a big deal. You're much better off learning to laugh about the situation instead of dwelling on it and making yourself feel worse!
