Songwriters are true artists that commonly go unnoticed. Personally, I'm a pretty big country fan, and I love that every song carries its own experiences and memories. While most country artists don't always write their own content, I find myself learning a lot from the stories and moments expressed in the music. Everyone interprets songs differently, but I have compiled a list of short lyrics from various country songs that I have taken something from.
1. "You get mad, you get strong, wipe your hands, shake it off, and you stand" - Rascal Flatts
This line is from "Stand" by Rascal Flatts. I like it a lot because it's a lot like "fall down seven times, stand up eight," which is something that I have always believed in. Life gets you down in a number of ways, and you will constantly be challenged in every aspect of your life, but it's our job to fight back, stand up, and push through.
2. "We've come this far, don't you be scared now, cause you can learn to fly on the way down" - Maddie & Tae
Maddie & Tae didn't write the song, but they did a great job of performing this pretty powerful song. It basically preaches that even when everything in the world is against you, that you have to keep pushing through to get where you've been working so hard to be. Whether it's graduating school, getting a job, or just getting through the day, this song can provide a little push.
3. "All the doors that I had to close, all the things I knew but I didn't know, thank god for all I missed, Cause It led me here to this." - Darius Rucker
This is one of my all time favorite song lyrics because I have always believed in the fact that everything happens for a reason. So, this is pretty much saying the same thing, but it even lays out specific situations that could have been what led you to the moment that you're in right now.
4. "And I'm raisin my glass to those Savin our ass overseas" - Cole Swindell
This is a little less of a life lesson, more of just a line that I really respect and believe in. The whole song "Ain't Worth The Whiskey" explains how just because someone goes out and tries to enjoy themselves when they're down, doesn't always mean it's because they had their heart broken. It's kind of empowering in a way that it motivates you to remember that there are things that are worth raising your glass for, and it doesn't have to be something personal or unnecessary. I'm all for supporting our armed forces, and I like that he's just expressing that this is the kind of thing to drink to, not someones misery.
5. "But you wake up wondering why she ain't ever something better, when you're lost and you've run out of road, found what I already know, in the end close is all there is, but you won't find this." - Carrie Underwood
This could go a few different ways, but the lesson I took from this was that sometimes when you get off track in your life, your work, or relationships, sometimes it takes going back to the basics, or back to a different time to realize that you need to find yourself again, or maybe find an old friend/support system that you may have left behind. It also kind of preaches that everyone is their own person, and whether or not you want to believe it, you will never find another you, and you should pride yourself on that.
6. "Here's to the good times, while there's still time." - Florida Georgia Line
This is pretty self explanatory, but I've learned this lesson very recently and it hit me like a freight train. Prior to this summer I could do whatever, at any time of the day, and just drop everything to do something adventurous. But now, I have to consider summer classes, a summer job, and plenty of other responsibility that I never expected to come so fast. So, while you haves the chance, make the most of your free time, because you'll never get it back.
7. "Take a look around, I'm the sunshine in your hair, I'm the shadow on the ground, I'm the whisper in the wind, I'm your imaginary friend, and I know I'm in your prayers, oh I'm already there"- Lonestar
This is a tough lyric for me because it relates to my life on a lot of personal levels, but most everyone today has someone that they have lost, or someone that they are distanced from who you miss endlessly. When things get hard, and you feel a little lost without them, sometimes you have to remember that you're probably on their mind just as much as they are on yours. And for those who have lost someone, I've always believed that they are able to look down on us and surround us when we need it. This line tells that story.
8. "He said 'Someday I hope you get the chance to live like you were dying.'" -Tim McGraw
This is a pretty basic line that millions of people live by today, but everyone should have the chance in their life to just let go and enjoy themselves fully. To the point that they can drop everything to travel, spend hundreds on a solid investment, make a drastic change, go out of your way for others. There are thousands of things that aren't easily achievable, but when your life is on the line, people will go to endless lengths. So, even if you aren't actually terminally ill (which I hope you're not) you should still ahem the chance in your life to let go and enjoy the incredible world around us.
9. "Make lots of noise, kiss lots of boys, or kiss lots of girls, if that's something you're into. When the straight and narrow, gets a little too straight, roll up a joint, or don't. Just follow your arrow wherever it points." - Kasey Musgraves
This is a pretty drastic example of living your life how you choose, but I like the idea that the line motivates anyway. I'm not encouraging anyone to kiss random people, or do gateway drugs, I just believe that everyone should be able to live and exist the way that they please, and not feel judged by the rest of the world around them. Everyone should feel comfortable in their own skin, I think thats our right as human beings.
10. "And there's no way I trade a few more dollars in my pocket I could've spent for a day I'll never forget. No, I didn't get a thing done, but I sure soaked up every minute of the memory we were makin', and I count it all as time well wasted" - Brad Paisley
I like this quote because it says that even if i was offered a large sum of money, or didn't get anything accomplished, I believe in always trying your best to stay positive and have a good time. There are times in your life that other people may see as a waste of time, or something lame, but if you are with people that you love or care about, and you have a smile on your face, then you're not wasting your time, you're experiencing life on your own terms.
I've always loved to listen for, and understand the stories and meanings in songs, and I think that's why It's so easy for me to relate song lyrics to my life. If these don't apply to you, maybe your life is going a lot smoother than you think. If it seems like a lot of them apply to you, then I hope that you can take away a lesson yourself. Also, next time you're listening to music, maybe think about the story, you could find your own inspiration on accident.
