The new movie, Doctor Strange, is filled with multiple life lessons. However, the one that affected me this most was how tragic events in your life can lead you to better places.

Now, let me explain. Doctor Strange is a neurosurgeon, and he ends up getting into a car accident that severs his sensory and motor nerves in his hands. In short, he does not have the fine tune movements and strength within his hands, which he needs to keep performing as a neurosurgeon. This is beyond tragic for Doctor Strange, because being a doctor was his entire life.

Doctor Strange did not know how he was going to live without being a doctor. To him, his whole life was ruined, and he did not have anything left to live for if he could not gain control of his hands again. Throughout the movie, he learns that, he does not need his hands or to keep being a neurosurgeon to continue to heal/save people. He learns there are different ways that he can keep helping people.

In the end, Doctor Strange saves the world and continues to heal and save people, just in a different way than he ever imagined he would. However, he had to go through the tragic event of practically losing function in his hands so that he could learn that it is okay to fail, that he cannot control everything, and that there is more to life than status and money.

This movie shows us that even though tragic events may happen in our life, and we may have to take different paths than we ever imagine, we will ultimately be better for it. We just have to work hard, and trust the journey. We cannot let our fear of failure or negativity from tragic events stops us from experiencing our wonderful journey.

There’s a little bit of Doctor Strange in all of us, we just have to have the guts to find it.
