Your Life Is A Joke

A short compilation of my favorite comedians

Your Life Is A Joke

“My life is a joke.” A phrase that is appropriate for everything from breaking a heel to failing an exam to getting a speeding ticket. At times it feels like the cosmic forces of the universe are staring down at your life as it unfolds, and just laughing at your misfortune. The running joke I have declared is “My life is a joke” is no longer sufficient enough to be applicable to my life..it has progressed to an hour long special on Comedy Central. Which got me thinking, I actually love and appreciate a good stand up special, so here’s a glimpse at my favorite modern day comedians.

Katt Williams

I am fairly certain Katt is under the influence of three or more types of narcotics every time he steps onstage, and at times I haven’t a clue what he is saying. But the man is undeniably funny. I could not quote anything from any of his shows for you for the simple fact that his profanity is off the charts, but my favorite line: “Sit back there and say my hair ain't luxurious, when you know it is.”

Nick Swardson

His piece about drunk girls is one hundred percent relevant to every college student who has seen an inebriated girl in a public setting. If you watch him for long periods of time his voice will start to get on your nerves but Nick Swardson is underrated in the comedy game if you ask me.

Dane Cook

Now, I follow Dane on twitter and instagram and just watched his latest special on Comedy Central last week “Troublemaker” and I will admit that he has lost his comedic touch that had me gasping for air when I heard his first set. His latest bit about text fights is one hundred percent accurate, however. Dane Cook’s delivery is how even his mediocre jokes become grade A material. His jokes are relatable, and he delivers them in a way that is memorable, and repeatable.

Anjelah Johnson

I had to toss a girl in here of course, and who doesn't love a little Bon Qui Qui in their life from time to time?

Kevin Hart

He has also lost his touch over the years, but there’s something about the way he stops to laugh at his own jokes that gets me every time. I am neither married, nor do I have children, but even his pieces about everyday family life are too, too good.

Chris Rock

My favorite comedian of all time, hands down. Praise the king, Chris Rock for president, Chris Rock over everything....I am obsessed. The longevity of his humor is what gets me. He was funny 20 years ago, and he’s still slaying the comedy game post-2010. His political views will appeal to you no matter which side of the spectrum you fall on, and honestly I refuse to listen to any criticism about him. He is the Beyonce of comedy.

Jeff Dunham

Just to switch things up, Jeff is nowhere near the top of my list but you have to give him mad props for the character swaps and just the overall talent of being a ventriloquist.

Chelsea Handler

Me when I’m 40? Just kidding (maybe). Her honesty and self-assuredness had me sold from the moment I watched her drink vodka shots on national television during an awards show.

Now you may think I forget to mention some comedians with a fair amount of acclaim, such as Daniel Tosh, Bo Burnham, or Amy Schumer...I didn’t forget them...I just do not find them funny. Also keep in mind I was only referencing modern day comedians who have produced new material in the past 5 or so years. I am forever up to new suggestions on comedians to watch. When my life feels like a joke, I love listening to stand up comedy to remind me that they make a living off of those jokes.

18 Things I Want To Do Now That I'm 18

I'm technically an adult, so I'm legally required to live a little, right?

For the entirety of my high school career, I was always seen as the goody-two-shoes. I never got in trouble with a teacher, I kept stellar grades, and when I wasn't doing extracurricular activities, I was at home studying. Even when I did go out, it was usually with a bunch of fellow band geeks. The night would end before 11:00 PM and the only controversial activity would be a fight based on who unfairly won a round of Apples-to-Apples when someone else clearly had a better card (I promise I'm not still holding a grudge).

Now that I'm officially an adult, I want to pursue some new things. I want to experience life in a way that I never allowed myself to do prior to entering college. These are the years that I'm supposed to embark on a journey of self-discovery, so what better way to do that than to create a bucket list?

I've been super busy lately with school work, studying, etc. Besides the fact that I do nothing but AP chemistry and AP economics, I constantly think of stupid questions that are almost impossible to answer. So, maybe you could answer them for me, and if not then we can both wonder what the answers to these 15 questions could be.
