Summer has officially arrived, and you know what that means: bathing suit and beach season.
By this time, you either have the so-called 'summer body' or you don't. And for those who consider themselves to be in the 'don't' category, you might be quick to feel ashamed that you don't look like Kim Kardashian does in a two-piece string bikini.
Well, I'm here to tell you that Kim Kardashian and the idea that only one body type is beautiful is so overrated.
Shame, embarrassment, and a negative body image are very difficult concepts to overcome; looking in the mirror every day and hating your body will warp your perception of yourself. Comparing yourself to Kim Kardashian and other celebs who have the millions of dollars to undergo fancy fad diets, hire high-end personal trainers, and (possibly) go under the knife is silly when you think about it. They have sculpted themselves into what society considers to be beautiful for summer, and it doesn't hurt that they have the means to--but who's to say that the 'perfect beach bod' is the only body that is beautiful? I think a difficult concept to understand when you're looking in the mirror and picking apart every flaw is that not everyone is born to have that slim figure. Sometimes, it's just not meant to be to have a teeny-tiny waist, a flat stomach, and curvy hips. Every body is born differently, but that doesn't mean it's not beautiful.
Life is too short to spend your time comparing yourself to those who are considered beautiful.
If you have what society considers the perfect summer body, then you go, girl--work that two-piece and own the fact that you have a beautiful body. And if you don't have that same body, don't cover it up and count your calories in the attempt to achieve that body. You should slip into that bikini and strut your stuff on the beach because your body is beautiful, too--even if society portrays it differently. Forget the salad--enjoy that ice cream cone. And love the body you were born into. You have one short life, so spend it loving yourself and enjoying the little moments, like a sunny day at the beach.
Don't spend it hiding who you are and hating yourself, because at the end of your life, you'll regret not living life to the fullest because you don't have that 'perfect summer bod'.
