For my 16th birthday, I got tickets to go see John Mayer in concert and I cried when I opened them (it’s on video, I cried like a baby). Two weeks later, we got an email saying he had cancelled the show for personal reasons, and I cried again, this time like a very angry, hungry, tired baby.

Needless to say, John Mayer is sort of like the man of all men to me. He writes music that gets you EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. He plays guitar like it’s going out of style and has the look of that guy who is hot as heck but you are a little scared to take home to your dad. Ever since I can remember I have been jamming to John Mayer songs and while recently belting out one of his iconic ballads on a ride home I realized, John Mayer has songs that can change the world.

1.“Waiting on the World to Change”

Cliché I know, but what better way to fix any problem that we face in today’s world than to listen to this jam and realize waiting on the world to change is something that we can all hope for and pray about to happen. That everyone will love everyone and that there will be peace, but God only knows when that will happen so until that time comes I am going to continue to wait on the world to change and to do my best in helping that change come about just as everyone should. While you are waiting for change, BE the change.

2.“Gravity”

Now, although the lyrics of this song are putting a negative connotation on gravity saying “It’s pulling me down” or “Gravity, stay the hell away from me” when I think of this song I think thank goodness for gravity. There a lot of high egos around us that could use some gravity to help them stay level and humble. So the next time you run into someone being overly arrogant have them listen to “Gravity” maybe it will bring them down a notch as well as keep yourself grounded in this ever-changing world we live in.

3.“Daughters”

This song is perfect for all sexes. Not only does it tell men to treat us women with respect (a.k.a. Donald Trump) but it also teaches us that women have to be respectful of one another as well. There is so much judgment and comparison when it comes to females and if only we had a world where everyone respected everyone. Men respected men and women and women respected men and women. “Daughters” teaches us to do unto others as we want done unto us. How we treat people can lead into how they treat others, so leave a good mark, make a good impression, treat people nicely.

4.“Say”

“Say what you need to say” I mean c’mon, is there any better advice than this? John Mayer nailed it. Life is too short people, SAY WHAT YOU NEED TO SAY. Tell everyone you love, you love them, talk to the boy you are crushing on, get married, travel, eat a donut or 5, stay up till 4 a.m., watch a whole season of the Office in 1 day. Say what you need to say, do what you need to do, LIVE LIFE.

5.“Free Fallin’”

Last but not least, my all-time favorite John Mayer song and favorite song of ALL TIME. Know I know Tom Petty originally sang it but I grew up with John Mayer’s version and it will always be THE jam. Live free, free fall for a while. Do not be afraid to take risks and not be sure of what the outcome will be, that is all about what life is. Free fall and be confident that God will land you wherever you are supposed to end up.

That’s all folks. The 5 songs that John Mayer gave us to help us change the world.

Summer: a time (usually) free from school work and a time to relax with your friends and family. Maybe you go on a vacation or maybe you work all summer, but the time off really does help. When you're in college you become super close with so many people it's hard to think that you won't see many of them for three months. But, then you get that text saying, "Hey, clear your schedule next weekend, I'm coming up" and you begin to flip out. Here are the emotions you go through as your best friend makes her trip to your house.

Kourtney Kardashian

Winter break is over, we're all back at our respective colleges, and the first week of classes is underway. This is a little bit how that week tends to go.

The professor starts to go over something more than the syllabus

You get homework assigned on the first day of class

There are multiple group projects on the syllabus

You learn attendance is mandatory and will be taken every class

Professor starts chatting about their personal life and what inspired them to teach this class

Participation is mandatory and you have to play "icebreaker games"

Everybody is going out because its 'syllabus week' but you're laying in bed watching Grey's Anatomy

Looking outside anytime past 8 PM every night of this week

Nobody actually has any idea what's happening this entire week

Syllabus week is over and you realize you actually have to try now...or not

Now it's time to get back into the REAL swing of things. Second semester is really here and we all have to deal with it.

panera bread

Whether you specialized in ringing people up or preparing the food, if you worked at Panera Bread it holds a special place in your heart. Here are some signs that you worked at Panera in high school.

1. You own so many pairs of khaki pants you don’t even know what to do with them

Definitely the worst part about working at Panera was the uniform and having someone cute come in. Please don’t look at me in my hat.

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.
