Scrolling through Instagram or any social media platform can be like falling down a rabbit hole: it can easily cloud our ability to identify with what is real life and what is not. So why am I not impressed? Because it’s not all real. The truth is we all don’t live aesthetically pleasing lives or picture perfect lives all the time. With the power of social media, it's really easy to fake happiness. You never know what someone else is going through on the internet. Maybe someone had a really bad day but they still decide to post a picture of a dance class they went to with their friends. To me personally, Instagram shows all the happy positive things. It's good to spread positivity but at the same time, be real about it. Everyone has their days that they struggle but most of the time we don't put that side of ourselves on the internet, do we? If we're being honest, we think that people aren't going to read or watch that, so we don't share what we people aren't going to like or read.
Here are some examples of picture-perfect lives:
Then we have Youtubers telling us how to create the perfect Instagram:

Your self-worth is not defined by how many pictures you post, likes you have or the number of followers. It simply doesn’t matter. Your life isn't yours if you constantly care about what people think. Enjoy life without technology for a day and you would be pleasantly surprised. You have your own way of seeing the world, and you don’t need to fit into someone else’s square-cropped instagram sized box. So go ahead and post a picture of the laundry pile that's waiting for you on your bed, or a picture of your messy desk that is made for studying, or a picture of a messy hair day, or a picture of you staying up until 3 AM watching Disney movies. Because your life, your real one, the one you’re living right now- is pretty perfect, just as it is. Let’s just get Insta -real and live the life we were blessed with and capture the moments that make our life worth living.
