According to USA Today, http://www.usatoday.com/story/money/2015/11/10/chi...there have been multiple reports of an E. coli outbreak linked to several Chipotle restaurants in the Pacific Northwest, leading to 22 cases of reported illnesses. This led to over 40 of the chain's locations closing immediately and an investigation to see where exactly the E. coli virus originated.
Chipotle has recently released a statement on the incident: “The safety and well being of our customers is always our highest priority. We immediately closed all of our restaurants in the area out of an abundance of caution, even though the vast majority of these restaurants have no reported problems. "According to NBC news, Chipotle is, Scrubbing down its restaurants in the Northwest, doing its own testing of the supply chain and buying new food," while not opening the restaurants until Chipotle is safe to eat at once again.
Originally from Colorado, this fast food chain has spread across the nation, quickly becoming a fan favorite. Millions of people still eat at Chipotle regularly, regardless of their knowledge about the outbreak. I personally eat Chipotle at least once a week because their lines move quickly, the prices are reasonable, and the food is great, so one outbreak in over 20 years of existence doesn’t concern me.
Not only is Chipotle a personal favorite, but also a favorite amongst the DMV, which hosts over 100 busy locations. Outbreaks and mishaps happen all the time in fast food chains. Time heals all, so just like the E. coli breakout of Taco Bell in 2006 or my middle school braces phase, this too shall pass. I’ll wait about two to three weeks before I return to eating Chipotle, just until the E. coli breakout subsides to stay on the safe side.
