Life Is 'Beta' in Gamma Phi Beta

I went to a few recruitment events and fell in love with the idea of getting to know other girls and crafting. I went to philanthropy round and I fell in love with the national philanthropies they were involved with. I went to sisterhood round and I fell in love with every girl in the room along with their values. I went to preference night and I knew for a fact that Gamma Phi Beta was for me. Joining a sorority is by far the best decision I have made yet during my collegiate years and here are a few reasons why life is 'beta' in Gamma Phi Beta.

1. We help build strong girls.

In today's society, girls struggle with self-esteem and the idea of how they are perceived by others. Gamma Phi Beta works on building strong girls which allows for us to grow up being strong and confident in our own bodies. We work on knowing who we are as an individual and being able to be role-models and leaders to others.

2. We invented the word "sorority," literally.

Gamma Phi Beta was the first group to name the organization a sorority. Dr. Frankling Starely, a professor from Syracuse University, made this decision because sorority means "sisterhood" in Latin.

3. Tiffany and Co. badges.

Gamma Phi's proudly wear a badge made by Tiffany and Co. Keepin' it classy and cute, as always.

4. The crescent moon and pink carnation.

The pink carnation is known to be one of the most longest-lasting flowers and has an aroma that is both uplifting and motivating.

The crescent moon represents the continuous growth of the sorority and the personal growth of each sister. There is no doubt that you will find this symbol just about anywhere and you will want to purchase everything with a crescent moon on it!!

5. Love, Labor, Learning, and Loyalty.

Our four core values are something that all of the girls have in common. This is something we definitely make sure to think about when making decisions and in reality, it is what makes us who we are.

6. We support Girls on the Run.

Gamma Phi Beta helps build strong girls through Girls on the Run. This program "inspires girls to be joyful, healthy and confident using a fun, experience-based curriculum which creatively integrates running." It makes sure that each girl knows her true potential and strives to pursue her dreams.

7. T-shirt swap page.

Through this page, you are able to connect with other Gamma Phi's around the world. You can see the articles of clothing that others are selling or swapping and you can even create your own shirt and find others who are interested in purchasing it.

8. The chants.

There is no doubt that you will always have a Gamma Phi chant stuck in your head. You sing it loud and proud and make sure others know "I am a G, I am a G-A, I am a G-A-M-M-A Phi Beta girl!"

9. Pink and glitter... everywhere!!

Not only will you start to be extra crafty, but you will start to realize that you are using more of the color pink and more glitter on just about everything you make. You will start to love the color pink and glitter more than you have ever imagined!!!

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.
