Social media, online shopping, flying. We live in a world that is so fast-paced and most of the time we are so caught up in this desire to have what we want when we want it and to take shortcuts in order to continue the fast paced life.
We have become so accustomed to the use of social media that instead of calling or visiting someone; we see what is going on in their life via their social media accounts. I can not tell you how many times significant events have happened in the lives of my friends and family and I was not told by them — I read a Facebook post about it. Yes, social media can be a great tool and keep people connected. However, using it as a replacement to conversation can be dangerous to relationships. So go visit people or at least take the time to make a phone call.
It has become a trend online shop because it is a "hassle" to go out and make your purchases in the store. However, we get annoyed if shipping is going to take too long. We are so annoyed and bothered by lines and having to wait. Have you ever thought about viewing lines from a different mindset? Instead of getting frustrated, use this as a time to relax and take a step out of the fast lifestyle that we are caught up in.
Flying has become one of the main means of transportation. Although this is very beneficial in regards to saving time, people still are in a rush and want things to move faster than they already do. When rushing through an airport or complaining about a delay, think of the fact that years ago this would have never been possible. Also, while in a plane or a long car ride, use this time to think and clear your mind while you enjoy this face paced experience with a slow paced mindset.
We are all tied up in a fast paced life, but there are things we can do to slow down moments in our everyday life. It is important to disconnect and appreciate the things around you for a few moments every once in a while. Appreciate life, take some deep breaths, think of the bigger picture and realize that it is OK to step out of the fast paced society and enjoy a slow moment while thinking about the bigger picture.
