Life in the Northwoods can be hectic during tourism season, but in most of the seasons, it is pretty slow. There has to be local entertainment, right? Well, take a peek at this article and see if you can agree!
1. Your late night entertainment can usually be found at your local Wal-Mart.
This is also the case if you and your friends are bored, want to hang out late at night, or maybe a midnight snack run.
2. On your Sunday drive, you admire your neighbor's wood pile.
OK, so maybe this need a teensy bit explanation. OK, maybe a bit. You're taking a Sunday drive after church and you see some neighbors with wood piles, well, you just have to stop and admire them don't you?
3. Paul Bunyan's is the Golden Corral of the Northwoods.
We all have heard of the Golden Corral restaurant buffet, but Paul Bunyan is special because it only has 2 Wisconsin locations: Minocqua, WI and Wisconsin Dells, WI. Both are always busy during the summer and have a great family breakfast.
4. Fish fries on Friday nights are as Northwoods as it gets.
Every Friday night, you can usually find at least a dozen restaurants across the Northwoods packed to the brim with cars eating there for what else but a Friday night fish fry. Friday night fish fries have been a Northwoods tradition for as long as Minocqua has been a town.
5. Snow days are non-existent in the Northwoods.
In Texas, if snow shows up, school gets cancelled, in California; same thing. In Wisconsin, however, even if 3 feet of snow fall, school is still in session.
6. There are potholes in the Northwoods with their own area code.
Yes, there are potholes that large in the Northwoods. No, this is not a joke.
7. Kids can ride their snowmobiles to school and there is even a designated parking space for snowmobiles.
At the high school I attended, this was quite common.
