Life In Athens As Told By "Friends"

If you're a student at Ohio University, you know very well of all the wonders and experiences that it has to offer. Life in Athens is anything but ordinary. There's certainly never a dull moment.

However, if you (unfortunately) don't know what life in Athens is like, here are some "Friends" to tell you.

1. Endless Bobcat pride

We Bobcats have such an insane passion for our school. There's nothing that compares to the love we have for our campus, sports teams, fellow students, etc.

And I mean, "win or lose, we still booze." Right?

2. Miami Rivalry

When it comes to all the folks of Oxford, Ohio, we Bobcats express more pride in OU than ever. The majority of us have friends at Miami, but we have no problem poking fun at them about it. We have our reasons.

OU, oh yeah.

3. Gorgeous campus

We certainly have great reasons for all of the pride in our school, one of them being that our campus is full of historic gorgeousness. Those Athens Blocks are totally iconic and we never fail to remind non-Athenians of that.

4. Forever walking up and down hills.

Athens is also famous for its crazy hills. We all have had to brave Morton and Jeff at some point in our OU careers. They definitely help keep us Bobcats in shape.

5. Friendly neighborhood squirrels

Could there be any more squirrels?

Athens squirrels have pretty much become students. They're just as ingrained in the OU culture as we are -- eating Goodfella's, chillin' on College Green -- the usual.

6. Endless food choices

Big Mama's, DP Dough, Wings Over -- you name it, Athens has it. One of the hardest choices of the day may be where to eat after the bars close. Athens is notorious for food, and good food, at that.

7. "Fest with the best"

Fest season is a trademark of OU. There's nothing quite like one gigantic get-together for you and your fellow 'cats. It's a bonding experience like no other.

8. HallOUween

HallOUween is another one of our trademarks. It's become such a big deal that it's usually the top choice for celebrating Halloween for most out-of-towners. And half the fun is trying to come up with a costume more creative than everyone else's.

9. Going out in the middle of the week

Dollar Shots on Mondays, Tequila Tuesdays, Liquor Pitchers on Wednesdays, Thirsty Thursdays -- going out isn't just made for the weekends. Athens has a little something to fit into everyone's schedules at any time.

10. Nights in with close friends

Sometimes you just don't want to feel claustrophobic at the C.I. or want to wait for a bartender to serve you. Some of the best nights are the ones spent staying in with your friends and roommates rather than going out.

11. Late nights in Alden

More often than not, Alden Library becomes our second home in Athens. Also more often than not, we could have avoided it. But we secretly love Alden and silently thank it for being there for us when we need to cram for that exam last minute.

12. Making lifelong friends

Athens is full of diverse, good-spirited people. You'll make some truly incredible friends and create memories that last a lifetime.

13. Never wanting to leave

Just the mere thought of leaving one day is enough to get the tears rolling. After all, Athens is basically heaven on earth.

The Daily Struggles of Being a College Commuter

It's not all morning coffees and singing along to the radio.

The Daily Struggles of Being a College Commuter

I've been in college for four years now. I spent half my time as a commuter and half as a resident so I've experienced both sides of the housing spectrum. One thing I've learned comparing the two is that my struggles as a commuter far outweigh anything I went through while living on campus. Commuters have to deal with the problems school brings along with a slew of other issues; I've filled up my gas tank in the worst kind of weather conditions and napped in random places in public more times than I'm proud to say of. This is a list of some of the most challenging aspects of being a commuter.
