I absolutely love working out. I also love saving my money and not spending it all on exercise and working out. Here's how I've managed to have the best of both worlds!
ClassPass
ClassPass is one of the best hacks for severely discounted workout classes. ClassPass is a monthly subscription that you can access via their app or their website. Look out for promotions because sometimes you can start with a free two-week trail or even a free month trial! With this trial, you get a certain amount of points, I believe 27 and you can use those points to "pay" for your workout classes. Classes usually range from 6-12 points per class!
Memberships for ClassPass are a bit expensive. They start at $49 a month, but you can do a lite membership that is about $27 per month or you can recommend ClassPass to your friends and earn credit to pay for your membership!
I very much recommend ClassPass as you seriously get a bang for your buck AND you get to try workout classes from all the local studios near you, from spin classes, to Barry's Bootcamp, to Flywheel Sports, to barre classes to anything else you can imagine!
I've taken 23 classes through ClassPass so far and I've only spent one month of pay, so $49!
First Timer Free Trial Classes
Something that I very much appreciate is that many workout studios will offer a first class free. I've done a first class free at OrangeTheory, Barry's Bootcamp, a barre studio near me among a few others!
What's great about this is you can try a new workout and see if you like it before you put any money down! Additionally, once you take this first free class, many studios will offer you a beginners package to further test out if you really like this workout class before you put too much money into it. For example, SoulCycle offers a 3 pack of classes for $75 to beginners!
Workout Class Excursions with Clubs from SchoolÂ
Something that I absolutely love about college is that most of the clubs I participate in have excursions throughout the year to different workout classes, for free!
I help assist with the running club at my school, leading two runs a week and I've personally organized two classes to Barry's Bootcamp for free for my runners! Workout studios love big groups and advertising to perspective new customers, especially college students who are usually in a new area and trying new studios they do not have back at home, so bringing a group of 15 or so students to these studios is a win-win for both parties!
Workout Classes with Instructors in TrainingÂ
This is something that I discovered while taking classes at The Bar Method in Scarsdale. I noticed a sign about free classes with an instructor in training! While some may be a bit skeptical about this, I think it is wonderful. This is a win-win for both parties, because the class goer gets a free workout class and the class instructor is one more class closer to getting their certificate!
Not all studios do this and when they do, they're not too loud with advertising it because of course, they want you to pay for classes! So the next time you're in a workout studio, ask about trainee classes and/or look around for signs!
Groupon!
My biggest recommendation when it comes to using Groupon, for workout classes or otherwise, is make sure you read the fine print (and the fine print to the fine print) and to even better ensure that there will be no issues with the purchase, I have found that it is best to call the studio (or whatever you're buying a Groupon for) before you purchase and ask to make sure there will be no additional charges or catches.
This I have found out the hard way, because I bought a Groupon for a hair cut, highlights and a blow out, only to get to the salon and be charged an additional $100. I, of course, fought the additional charges, but it was an unfortunate situation so learn from my knowledge and don't let that happen to you!
That being said, Groupon is an amazing resource for severely discounted workout classes, among other things! Recently I bought a 5 pack of spin classes for $27, a month of unlimited barre classes at The Bar Method for $35 and an unlimited amount of bootcamp classes for one month for $32.
When buying Groupons, be sure to check the discount page because Groupon almost always has an additional discount code that can apply an even greater deal!
