When people say the term "Gym rat," I automatically think of a giant muscular guy with arms the size of my body, though being a gym rat really just means that you're a person who is dedicated to going to the gym. Being a gym rat, there are certain aspects of our lives that only other fellow gym rats will understand, so here are a few things that are much too familiar for all dedicated gym goers.
1. You have to cancel plans so that you can get your daily work out in.
These plans could be amazing and fun but if it cuts into our gym time, chances are we'll choose the gym over the plans.
2. People assume you're a picky eater when in reality you don't eat most foods simply because they don't fit into your diet that compliments your workout routine.
Even if we chose to have a cheat day and eat these foods, chances are we'll be keeled over in pain for the rest of the day since our bodies aren't used to consuming these kinds of food, so it's much easier to just cut certain foods out of our diet all in all.
3. When you only have one exercise left to do but someone is using the machine so you're just like...
4. You get more excited buying new gym clothes/gear than you do buying normal clothes.
Though you might get some blisters after the very first wear, nothing gets you more pumped up for a workout than breaking in new running shoes. When you look good you feel good. New workout gear makes you look good at the gym, and then look good later after the killer workout you'll have that day.
5. When you have to workout at an abnormal time of day in order to fit your daily workout into your schedule on a busy day.
Sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do. Even if that means waking up before sunrise in order to get your workout in for the day. You may feel rough at the time, but your body will be thanking you later.
Yes, we realize Advil is not the best for your body, but when you have to walk around and climb stairs after leg day, the consequences of Advil don't seem too bad.
7. Having to explain to people that you don't just want to workout, you NEED to workout.
After months and years of constantly going to the gym, working out becomes a way of life. Our bodies just don't feel right and our moods go down if we go a period of time without exercising. We literally need exercise in our life in order to be our true selves, it's how we clear our minds, get rid of stress, and stay happy.
