When I first began college, I had dreams of becoming an elementary school teacher. Everything changed last year as I found a new passion for writing research papers. Some may think that I am crazy, but I love spending my days in the library working on 10-15 page papers. As always, I had the support of my family. They encouraged me to pursue what I loved and pushed me to achieve my goals. Some may say that majoring in History can be irrelevant in modern society unless you plan on being a teacher. To much surprise, there are several opportunities awaiting students who have a BA in History.

1. Academia

What better way to devote your research and love of the subject than to teach college students? When becoming a Professor or a Doctor (with your PhD), you can strongly focus on a topic in history and hopefully the students will be engaged in their learning.

2. Campaign Manager

If choosing to add on a political science major or minor, you are well prepared to work for a political campaign. This can range from your hometown board of elections or in D.C.

3. Journalist / Editor

With a strong focus in critical thinking and writing, History majors are prepared for publishing articles, journals, and books.

4. Lawyer

Many lawyers receive their foundation in historical studies. In order to understand the present, you must recollect the past.

5. Archivist

If you're like me, you love seeing original documents & artifacts in person. If going into archival work, you can pursue a career in a historical society or even in a museum.

As a History Major, you develop critical reading skills, amazing writing techniques, and vital reading abilities. Yes, we may sit in class learning about Ancient Greece or about the contributions of the Mayan civilization. To some, this can be extremely boring, but I find it fascinating to learn about how history has created the present. Everything that we have today, can be located in the foundation of ancient civilizations, time-periods, historical events, philosophy, and political thinking.

Wherever you choose to go with your degree in history, remember that the possibilities are endless. In the words of Walt Disney himself, "If you can dream it, you can do it".

To My Loving Boyfriend,

  • Thank you for all that you do for me
  • Thank you for working through disagreements with me
  • Thank you for always supporting me
  • I appreciate you more than words can express
  • You have helped me grow and become a better person
  • I can't wait to see where life takes us next
  • I promise to cherish every moment with you
  • Thank you for being my best friend and confidante
  • I love you and everything you do

To start off, here's something I don't say nearly enough: thank you. Thank you, thank you, thank you from the bottom of my heart. You do so much for me that I can't even put into words how much I appreciate everything you do - and have done - for me over the course of our relationship so far. While every couple has their fair share of tiffs and disagreements, thank you for getting through all of them with me and making us a better couple at the other end. With any argument, we don't just throw in the towel and say we're done, but we work towards a solution that puts us in a greater place each day. Thank you for always working with me and never giving up on us.

Ah, yes, good old Hauppauge. We are that town in the dead center of Long Island that barely anyone knows how to pronounce unless they're from the town itself or live in a nearby area. Hauppauge is home to people of all kinds. We always have new families joining the community but honestly, the majority of the town is filled with people who never leave (high school alumni) and elders who have raised their kids here. Around the town, there are some just some landmarks and places that only the people of Hauppauge will ever understand the importance or even the annoyance of.

Tamatoa created a liar filled with shiny things simply for the purpose of tricking fish to enter and become his food. He too experiences a lesson in how easy it is to be tricked by shiny things when Moana distracts him by covering herself in glowing algae so Maui can grab his hook.
