For the past few weeks, I have been seemingly waiting to write my 50th article for Odyssey. This milestone is one that I have been waiting to reach, all so I can write an article about what it's like to write 50 articles in the past year but with an abundance of events and no time to even think. Little did I know I wrote my 50th article about three weeks ago.
Now, the point of telling you all this is that with time, we tend to overlook certain occasions or milestones without realizing them. Time is literally of the essence. We college students have jam-packed schedules that sometimes take over our lives unconsciously.
This want I have had to make my 50th article somewhat special has passed all because I didn't allow myself to sit down and focus on what actually matters to not others but myself. We find a great difficulty in finding time to do what we want to do because of this worry we have for others and attending every single event we are "supposed" to go to.
Throughout my three years of college, I have been to more philanthropy events, partial proceeds, and meetings than my 18 years of life before that. My high school self would have never thought that my empty schedule would become so busy, so quickly.
These events tend to overwhelm us because we don't have time to sit and do absolutely nothing. But if you think about it, is sitting and doing nothing that bad for you? Is having downtime something we all need for our mental and physical sanity?
We wonder what the answer is and we know the answer but we still don't allow ourselves to go the easy way out of simply doing nothing.
This pressure us college students have to always keep going because it will get you far is real, but in reality, we all need some nice downtime.
Take time out of your day to sit and watch your favorite television show; take time to go to the gym and take time to just do what you want for a change. I promise it will be worth it. And just maybe you'll remember to complete some milestone just like myself.
