Life Explained In Star Wars Quotes
DIsneyland Star Wars

Let's be real with ourselves, who doesn't like Star Wars? Whether you are a college football player or you play with action figures in your mom's basement, Star Wars represents some of the most classic film storytelling that has ever hit the big screen. Whether its Luke fighting his father Darth Vader in the Empire Strikes Back, or Anakin Skywaker turning to the dark side in episode III, the Star Wars franchise creates a universe with endless possibilities and stories that are brought out in comic books, fan-fiction, Youtube videos, and of course, movies.

While Star Wars is set in a universe that is vastly different than our own, I cannot help, but notice how closely I can relate to the characters in their struggle for good or evil. While I am not a Jedi Knight who is trying to train a disgruntled pupil or a bounty hunter trying to collect riches and prizes in far-off galaxies, I am a college student who is trying to create a life full of meaning and purpose that is true to myself in a world where meaning and purpose takes a million different forms. While our own life stories are vastly different than the Star Wars stories, there are quite a few quotes that just sum up all of life's journeys. While I did find most of these quotes off of Parade. com "20 of the most epic star wars quotes of all time", I can still remember hearing them during my own viewings of the movie. Nevertheless, here are few Star Wars quotes from the original and prequel trilogy.

1. "You can't stop change anymore than you can stop the suns from setting"- Shimi Skyjacker(Phantom Menace)

Personally, I find that I have a love-hate relationship with change. I hate it when the good things in my life change to something different, and I love it when the bad parts of my life change into happier parts. Nevertheless, this quotes explains why change in the Star Wars Universe and in life will always be inevitable. While Shimi Skywaker was saying goodbye to her young son Anakin when he was about to leave Tattooing with Qui-gon Jin and Obi-Wan Kenobi in this context, the same quote may apply to getting a new job or a move to a new city, or the death of a love one. While change can happen with positive or negative consequences, it is true in all universes that change will happen regardless of whether you want it to or not.

2. "Be mindful of your thoughts Anakin. They'll betray you."( Obi Wan Kenobi Attack of the Clones)

When it comes to life-tips, there is a reason why the most common thing most experts say is too eliminate self-doubt. Simply put, sometimes your greatest enemy is your own head. It can easily be said in Star Wars that Anakin's biggest reason that he turned to the dark side had to do with his own fears about Padme dying and their marriage being exposed, and would eventually lead to the downfall of the Jedi Order after the execution of Order 66. To put this simply, it is easy to become your own worse enemy when you allow negative thoughts to perpetrate your mind. Avoid being your worse enemy by eliminating self-doubt to the best of your ability.

3. "Remember. Your focus determines your reality"(Qui-gun Jin Phantom Menace)

This quote was actually one that I do not remember hearing during watching the prequel trilogy, but is incredibly accurate to how life works. When we dedicate our focus to pursing a college degree, a family, or whatever we choose to focus on in life, our reality of how we look at the world changes with it. When we succeed at work, our reality changes, and when we fail at work, our reality changes. While Qui-gon's lifespan in the movie world of star wars lasted only one movie, he plays a big impact in the lives of Obi-Wan Konobi and Senator Amadala. Needless to say, this quote demonstrates Qui-gon's wisdom as a Jedi master perfectly.

4. "Do or Do Not, there is no try"(Yoda)

Master Yoda, who is arguably the most famous character of the Star Wars Trilogy, is considered to be one of the greatest Jedi masters in history for a reason. The wisdom that Master Yoda brought to the Jedi Order and the training of Luke Skywalker played a crucial role in the original and prequel Star Wars trilogy. He was one of the few Jedi Masters to completely survive Order 66. This quote by Yoda however, is so well know that you can find in on your local pajama shirts. Master Yoda however, understood that there is either success or failure in life, and that "trying" does not explain the final result. Failure is a result of being unable to accomplish your goals after "trying" to accomplish them, while success is being able to take your attempts and accomplish your goals. Therefore, there is no middle ground between failure and success, which is why there "is no try". While all you Star Wars nerds out there probably got that instantly, it is still one of Yoda's greatest quotes.

5. "It's A Trap"(Admiral Akbar)

This is probably one of my favorite lines from the Star Wars Trilogy, as I have developed my own puns for this quote. In life however, It can be easily said that we have all made choices that come with unintended consequences. Whether its going to a local sushi restaurant and wind up getting food poison or getting robbed by choosing to walk in a dark alley, we all make poor choices that lead to unintended consequences. While Admiral Akbar said this line in the heat of battle during the destruction of the Second Death Star, we've all been lured into a trap before whether its intentional or unintentional.

To conclude my thoughts on these quotes, I would highly suggest to anyone who hasn't seen the Star Wars movie to go watch them. Even if you aren't a huge fan of it or normally aren't interested in science fiction movies, it will make you look at the world of film-making in a completely different way. There is a reason why Star Wars has remained such a popular icon from the 1970's to the world today, and the reliability of the characters to the audience is one of the biggest reasons why it has.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
