When a normal person thinks of the summer, they imagine sunshine, swimming, late nights, and tan skin. For a college student, it couldn't be any more of a horror story.
Sure, we don't have classes to worry about, but that is just the beginning. Many college students have summer jobs or internships, so we end up getting earlier than we do during the semester every day. I have friends that take jobs at the university and stay in their college town. I have other friends who go home and work in retail or food service, and some that do business internships. Personally, I am a part of Golden Apple of Illinois, and spend my summers teaching in real classrooms and taking classes to make myself a better educator.
College students are notorious for being broke, starving creatures, so we must make at least some money in the summers to supplement our bank accounts. Many times, during the summer, we can be busier than we are during the school year.
The biggest struggle during the summer? Not having many friends around like you do at school. I spend my summers with my parents and my boyfriend Jack, apart from Golden Apple. All of our friends are from different cities and, in my case, they are across the state. Not that I don't love spending time with my parents or Jack, it's just very different from having a million friends and sorority sisters right down the hallway to hang out with all the time.
Now this summer, many people my age have found entertainment in Pokemon Go. It's safe to say summer isn't as fun as it seems when you're halfway between adulthood and childhood.
