What are you majoring in?

If Life was a College Degree

College - something not everybody experiences. Life - something everybody experiences. What if life was a college degree? What classes would you be taking, what would your major be? If life is a constant learning process, what is it that we're learning?

We all go through different seasons of life - different semesters if you will. There are professors we like, professors we don't like. Regardless, they all teach us something. Our coworkers, families, friends, classmates - so many group projects. The hard times in life, the easy times - exams, pop quizzes, extra credit.

So, what about your education? Who are the teachers you like, what are you learning? Are things important to you, or do you ignore life lessons like old books left to gather dust on the bookshelf? What would your grade be - is it just enough to get by, or are you trying your best?

If Heaven was Honor Roll, would you be on the list? Numbers don't define you; the effort you put into your work does. It shows who you are as a person - are you passionate, aiming to succeed? We're all on this journey of life, ordinary people capable of doing extraordinary things through faith and love.

What's on your resume? What makes you stand out from others? We all have things that make us stand out, no two people are exactly the same.

Do you change your major a lot, or are you focusing on one certain thing? Do you motivate yourself to try hard, even if the class is dull and uninteresting? Do you try to find interest in everything you're learning?

Where are you in life right now? Do you have a Ph.D. in worrying, are you trying to change your degree? How many of us have degrees in faith, love, or friendship? How do we apply the knowledge we learn into our daily lives?

Are you a team member who relies on others to get the work done, or do you contribute your fair share? What do your classmates think of you? Would your professors willingly write you letters of rec? Do you make a positive difference?

When something bad or hard happens, how do you handle it? Do you lose all hope and sense of control? How well can you accept a bad grade, and what do you do about it? Can you learn from life's mistakes, or do you get overwhelmed?

If you're overwhelmed, you're not alone. We all have times in life when we feel weak when we wish our faith was stronger but we're suffering. God wants to help us through these times, to pass the difficult exams that come our way.

Keep studying, trying your best and appreciating the lessons life teaches you.

If life was a college degree, what would yours be?

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
