If people could describe me in one term, it would be "old soul." I have to admit that this description is a great summary of me. I feel like I am thirty or forty years old sometimes; some of my closest friends in high school were my parents' friends. I often find myself wishing I was from a different generation because they had it easier; there were not as many distractions as we have today.
1. "I miss those days before black-and-white television."
Yes, I miss not having much
2. "Why can't we go back to the Roaring '20's? Those were some great days."
Jazz music, bootleggers, you name it. That was truly a great era in our lives.
3. "Remember when we referred to dating as 'going steady?' Me, too. Those were the days!"
Many people know I already touched on this topic.
4. "I liked it better before the internet made its way into our lives."
Yes, I grew up with the internet in my house. No, I do not actually know what it is like living a life without the internet. Yes, I still miss those days. Please stop questioning me.
5. "Seriously, kids these days need to get off their computers/iPads/game systems and go outside and play."
I actually did play outside as a kid. I'm not that young!
6. "You're a teenager now? Wow, you are all grown up and just made me feel old."
I'm looking at you, little cousins. Please stop growing up for my sake.
7. "Wait, I just remembered how old my niece is. Man, I feel old."
She has never seen a day where I do not feel old.
8. "I've been feeling old since I turned thirteen."
Why? I don't know. Somebody, please help me.
9. "Oh, shoot! I need to find a husband; time is running out!"
Remember when it was strongly preferred that every woman finds a husband way before turning thirty? Me, too.
10. "That twenty-year-old is little boy cute."
Yes, that would, indeed, make him a smidge older than I.
11. "You graduated from college already? I am really getting up there in years."
Yes, I am still a sophomore.
12. “All of these people from my childhood are getting married. I really need to find a husband before people consider me ‘too old.’”
I know, I “have plenty of time.”
13. “Can somebody teach me how to use my computer/phone? I am completely lost right now.”
I really should have been born, at the latest, in the Baby Boomer generation.
14. “I’m sorry, you will have to ask my brother or my mom about your piece of technology; I do not know how to do that.”
I am not tech-savvy, so you probably should not come to me about all of your advanced technological issues.
15. "Most of my friends are my parents' friends!"
In high school, I told people that some of my closest friends were my dad's coworkers and my mom's friends.
