2021, My class graduates from college. But what's next? For a majority, it might be grad school or some type of professional school. For some, it might be just to secure a permanent, fulfilling job that will turn into profit after retirement. But for some, the search for finding stability in life still goes on. We live in an age and time that has allowed and shown us that the possibilities are endless when you are deciding on your future. From a simple degree in HRM to an M.D, all is worth something at the end. But for this next generation, it's not about the money. Gen X, Y, Z, whatever you may call them, are looking for a smooth, reasonable life. While they want to explore and grow, at the same time, they are aware of the mistakes their parents did and for sure do not want to settle for a life that has bills, bills, and more bills in it. They want a sense of peace, so much so that they are already planning to secure a future just by having a backup plan for life after college.
If I talk about myself, then there would be two sides to me. One, where I want a healthy, peaceful, and fulfilling life as a professional such as a doctor or so. But then another side of me, the backup plan side, makes me want to buy an RV and live an off-grid, no stress, self-employed job. No drama, no bills, no anything for the most part. But for that, I must realize the sacrifice I would be willing to give in. In either way, I would be giving years of my life to an unseen outcome, one which looks more promising, another which looks more peaceful.
Now, where should I be? What path should I choose?
Many of my peers are seeing the world they live in evolve. As it evolves, so do the problems and complexities in it. We have seen the range of life and diversity, as our world grows into a melting pot of culture and intelligence. From the early 2000's when we played basketball after school to late 2018's, where kids are creating GroupMes for Fortnite gatherings. We have seen it all. That is what makes us worry. That's what makes us wonder how much more complex can a routine life get? Is a simple college education worth it, as big companies are not looking for people with more technical skills rather than a graduate degree?
In a world where coding and machines will be rising in the next few years, where a simple job might be replaced with automation, where the range of wealth between the rich and the poor is getting bigger day by day, is it even worth going to a professional school?
Questions like these are being asked by our consciousness every second of the day. Maybe one day in the near future we will have an answer to these. But for now, it seems uncertain, but that, in itself, is a bliss to be enjoyed upon.
