If you haven’t been to the UC library, then you surely are missing out. Depending on the time of day and what the weather is like you might actually be surrounded by a good chunk of students. I’m sure that you have been in a situation where the person next to you or someone else in there is doing something beyond annoying... trust me it makes it tough to get work done. To all the people out on campus with no library etiquette this one is for you.

One of the first major rules to entering the library no matter the time of day is, just be quiet and get work done. No one likes to sit around and listen to your pointless conversations. If you go anytime on Sunday be prepared to hear a full recap of someone's weekend, often in detail. If you can avoid raising your voice while in the library that would really be to the benefit of yourself and the people around you. If a conversation is urgent and needs to happen, be sure that you take it outside or just simply text the person. Nothing is more annoying than being in a deep train of thought and being interrupted.

Eating in the library...not the most appropriate but if you must then do so quietly. It really somewhat is a pain in the neck when people come in with a four-course meal and sits at a computer and does nothing for a solid 2 hours. There are some people that come because they simply don’t have a laptop, if you need to use a computer do so in a timely fashion. You can rent out the laptops from behind the main counter at the entrance. Be forewarned that the speed of those laptops may depend on how many people are on the Wi-Fi.

USE EXTREME CAUTION when going to the library during finals week! You will most likely not find a spot to sit. In addition, the back left corner is the worst with Wi-Fi signal. Encourage big groups to go back there and do work, it’s an everyone for themselves at that point. Personally, I think it’s a good idea to find a second spot to do work during that time. This spot might be in your dorm room or even in a classroom in Hubbard. Be aware that sometimes these classrooms can be previously booked. If you run into this situation, then just politely move to another classroom if a class or organization comes into the room.

In conclusion, just don’t be annoying. It really irritates the upperclassmen that have been working for hours just to catch up on work. If you know or are someone who has the tendency to be loud in the library, just don’t come and do us all a favor.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

1. People assume you are mad all of the time.

2. Ten out of ten times you will give off an intimidating impression to others.

3. People do not acknowledge your feelings because you "do not have any."

4. Constantly being exhausted from trying to smile and not look like a witch.

5. And on the rare occasion your facial expressions show how happy you are, your friends think you are going crazy.

6. Each of your friends has said "I thought you were so mean when I first met you" at some point.

7. Then they follow that by saying "you are just hard to read."

8. So naturally if people do not know you they just assume you are a snob.

9. And when you are actually mad, your facial expressions are horrifying.

10. In the end you always look like you are judging people, when in reality people are ALWAYS judging you.
