After careful deliberation and meticulous vote counting, it has been declared that Liberty Fresh Food, College of Charleston’s renowned dining hall, has been voted as the most romantic restaurant in Charleston. As one student perfectly summarized, Liberty Fresh Food offers “a no-nonsense approach to dining” and an “organic environment for tender love to flourish.”
Indeed, one might argue, Liberty is not candlelit, but surveyors agree that the fluorescent overhead lights establish an honest environment. John, 19, argues that Liberty “does not allow for physical manipulation. You see everyone for who they are. If their faces resemble the pepperoni pizza on the menu, then that is the way it is -- there are no shadows to hide behind.”
Catherine, 18, who met her current significant other whilst in line for curly fries, agrees with John’s statement in saying, “I stood in line for 20 minutes. The bright lights, however, allowed me to clearly see who was standing around me, and that is how I met my honey, Harrison. When I finally made it to the front of the line, they were out of the curly fries, but Harrison let me dip one of his in my honey-mustard sauce.”
As observed by College of Charleston students, the multitude of varying food stations naturally separates every kind of personality. Cornelius, 19, recalls how he met his girlfriend of two months, Jobelle, at the Simple Selections station. “The vegetables and chicken usually don’t have too much flavor to it," he said. "I like my meals how I like my women: nice and simple. I realized Jobelle was the one for me when I saw her devour a piece of unseasoned meat.”
Alexia, an adventurer and lover of nature, attributes Liberty’s convention-defying cuisine to the start of her tumultuous, yet exhilarating relationship with Tom, 18. She recalls a stranger, being Tom, challenging her to eat the wasabi mashed potatoes on a Tuesday afternoon. “And it never ended there,” she adds, “It has been rocky between Tom and me, as I dared to delve into the vegetarian beef macaroni -- and that was where he drew a line. I think he’ll have a chance to redeem himself today, though, as I don’t think I can chow down yet another burrito bowl.”
Liberty Fresh Food strategically closes on Saturdays to combat hook-up culture and encourage students to go on lunch and dinner dates. For Andrew and Wendy, this hits close to home. “All I wanted was pizza,” Wendy begins. However, her quest for cheese on dough quickly failed as the doors of Liberty were firmly locked. “Andrew walked past me as I was furiously banging on the doors of Liberty," she said. "He could see the pain and fury in my eyes, and he asked me if I wanted to get a salad at Verde. Now we are inseparable. Thank you, Liberty Fresh Food! You are the reason I met the love of my life.” Saturday’s are now the perfect opportunity for date night, as students on a meal plan are left with no other option. (City Bistro was voted by 86 percent as "not a real option.")
It should come to no surprise that Liberty has been awarded this great honor. Whether you planned to graduate with an MR or MRS degree from the College of Charleston, our wonderful dining hall will make 100 percent sure you do!
"I'm not afraid of the day we get married," Cory claims. "Lena has already let go. As have I."
"Honey, some more tater tots?"
"No?"
"Okay, sorry. Here are some French toast and seven slices of bacon."
"Sorry."
"Here's the eighth slice."
