Liana Banks is a star. Before she even performed her first song Saturday night at Webster Hall, all eyes were on her the second she hit the stage. Dressed in a black and white checkerboard hoodie, a black pin choker, black boots, black shades, and her trademark bright green hair, in a high ponytail she began singing the first song ‘Worth It” off her new mixtape Insubordinate. A song in which she sings about her struggles before getting to where she is today, on stage performing in a front a large crowd at Webster Hall in New York City. In the song she sings “I remember, when I had to skip a couple meals, when I turned down all those pop deals, when the rent and phone was past due, it was all worth it, every sacrifice, every sleepless night.” The crowd sang along to these very relatable lyrics, being as the crowd was filled with many artists like herself.

Then she started her next song “Plead the Fifth,” a song about a wild night spent with a friend, where things apparently got wild and filthy; “but we ain’t take no pics so we plead the fifth.” At which point in the song the music stops before the crowd yells “Fuck It Up” and Liana showcases her sick dance moves, much to the crowds enjoyment accompanied by loud and energetic chants of “Aye! Aye! AYEEEEEEEEE!!!!!” Her next song “ LVL UP” is about not letting others try to put you down and kill your vibe, it’s about doing things bigger and blowing expectations out the water and making your haters even madder, and giving them more to hate on. In the song she sings “they told us to turn our swag down, so we made it even more loud… only right that we level up.” Liana then switched up the pace by throwing the crowd a unique cover of artist Drake’s song “Fake Love,” with a piano accompaniment from DJ of the night DJ Sleepy2. This was a nice and unexpected change of pace. She then faded the end of the cover into her next song crowd favorite “Tragic,” a song about how sad it is that a girl or a hater in general would have nothing better to do with their time than to talk about and harass Liana.

Another standout song was “Truce,” a song about growing tired of fighting with a lover and wanting it to be over. As the set came to close, she picked up the pace again with fan favorite “Eat,” a song about a special kind of meal. Since the crowd knew it so well during the songs hook Liana would take the mic and point it into the crowd as they screamed back “licky licky licky licky, EAT!” She ended her set with her song “No Feelings” featuring Jay-Payso Rockstar of the talented musical collective of FOURSIX. This got the crowd jumping and fully engaged, allowing Liana to leave on a high note.

Liana Banks sings, dances, and writes her own music, she’s done it all on her own and if she’s coming to a city near you, do not hesitate, grab a ticket and go! You won’t, regret it.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

As an English Major in college, I have a lot of writing and especially creative writing pieces that I work on throughout the semester and sometimes, I'll find it hard to get the motivation to type a few pages and the thought process that goes behind it. These are eleven thoughts that I have as a writer while writing my stories.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
