Liam Payne's Single "Strip That Down" Was Not Worth The Wait

Waiting two years was definitely not worth listening to a radio song featuring a homophobic rapper.

Liam Payne's Single "Strip That Down" Was Not Worth The Wait

Two weeks ago Liam Payne, one of four members of One Direction released his first single. Liam is the last one to release any kind of music following behind Harry's full album release. You are probably wondering what my thoughts are on this one considering I am a huge fan of One Direction and I have every one of the boys' singles on my phone. Well, this is not the case with Liam. I do not have his single on my phone and will not be putting it on my phone because to be completely honest, I do not like it at all. I love all kinds of music and I love Liam very much, I have fricken 'Girl Almighty' tattooed on my arm. However, in my opinion, Liam's single was not worth the wait and I will tell you why.

Liam was the last one to release any kind of music, even though when the One Direction hiatus started, he was the first to say he was working on music. None of the other boys had mentions of doing solo things, until shortly after Niall Horan was the first to release anything. We also had no idea what was going on with Liam because the fans assumed him dating Cheryl was a rumor until she popped out a baby, and they named him Bear. So now half of One Direction are dads. The rest of the boys' singles are wonderful, they sound amazing especially Harry's album, I have not stopped listening to it. However, Liam released his single and I was scared to listen to it because I felt as if I would not like it. Spoiler Alert: I do not think it is Liam's best work.

I get it, people try new things, some people grow old of the pop scene. Totally understandable to broaden your horizons. Let us take a look at one of the lyrics that kind of irks me but also has no relevance to the actual song. Liam sings about a girl who he clearly has an interest in and what not, it is typical, but then he says "You know, I used to be in 1D, Now I'm out free" Wait, what?! So the song talks about wanting to have fun in a club setting again mentions of the interest in this random girl, then he talks about being in One Direction. In what world does getting the attention of a girl with alcohol and dancing relate to being in One Direction. It does not have anything to do with the song and that is what irks me. I get it, not everyone loved One Direction and I know their management was terrible but the lyrics do not correlate to the song, so that is one reason why it was not worth the wait.

Another reason why it was not worth the wait is that of the person he has featured on the song. Liam has Quavo featured on the song and immediately researched who this guy was because I had no idea. I found out he is a part of the trio Migos and I have a few songs with them on my phone. Turns out Quavo is extremely homophobic. In my book, this is a major red flag no. I did a lot of research on this man and his comments about another rapper who came out as gay were actually disgusting. So, for that reason alone the song is a no from me.

The last reason was that Liam released the music video for his song, which I will watch. However, apparently it got leaked by someone so he tweeted he would be releasing it later in the day on Britain Time. But what does not make sense is to have the video leak, then postpone the release time. Just release the video it is not like someone can unsee the video that got leaked. Most artists songs get leaked and they release it anyway and it does just fine. So that did not make any sense to me at all.

If Liam does end up reading this I am sorry but I just do not like the song. I have seen him write masterpieces while in One Direction and I understand music can change. I love the One Direction boys very much but I know Liam can do better. Do not get me wrong the song is an excellent song for the radio, but I never listen to the radio. I love Liam to pieces and it is 2017 you do not have to agree with everything your favorite artists do or what they put out. Who knows maybe Liam will put out an album here soon and have some really fantastic songs. I am here to be supportive because that is what fans are for. I cannot tell Liam what to do but I know he can do a lot better and not collborate with homophobic artists.

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…
