This past weekend a new LGBT Resource Center opened on May 21, on 5750 Cedar Springs Road in Dallas, Texas. It is the largest LGBT resource center at 20,000-plus square feet. The center was even constructed in the shape of a triangle to symbolize the perseverance of the LGBT community. The Resource Center offers a variety of health services to those fighting HIV and AIDS. It also offers health services for transgender individuals who need medical attention or look to start the transition process.

In addition to providing a health facility to the community, it also will work to help and empower the LGBT community through various resources such as youth services and programs, counseling services, senior services, nutrition services, advocacy, and much more.

The Resource Center will still operate from its prior facility on 2701 Reagan Street in Dallas, Texas as its primary clinic and for its food pantry services. The new facility is open to and welcomes everyone of all backgrounds. Those even outside of the LGBT community are welcomed. The new building is equipped with multiple unisex restrooms that are open to anyone in and everyone.

Now more than ever has this new facility been needed. Recently, in Oak Lawn, which is known as the LGBT area of Dallas, has experienced numerous violent attacks and hate crimes towards gay men. This made the much-needed expansion of the Resource Center even more necessary. The center is here to stand up against and fight the discrimination of the LGBT community and to provide and ensure a safer living environment within the North Texas area. The Resource Center is a new symbol of love, equality, pride, and safety.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
