An Open Letter To Second Semester Seniors

You'll get through it.

An Open Letter To Second Semester Seniors

Dear Second-Semester Senior,

You're almost there. Graduation day, you can almost taste it. I know some of you probably can't wait to leave high school, while others wish you could relive your last four years. Last year, I was in your shoes, half wishing school what end, but knowing that I would miss everything that made high school so great for me. So I'm here to tell you to cherish every moment you have left because you're going to miss it.

Senioritis is real and you probably already have it. Try to push through these last few months you're almost done and there's nothing worse than having an opportunity taken away from you because you gave up. Some days you won't have any motivation and that's okay, everyone deserves a day off. You're almost at graduation, you're not there yet, you still have work to do and finals to take.

If you didn't get accepted into your top-choice college, it will be okay. Open your mind and look at your other options, there's a reason you applied to them. You'll end up choosing the best place for you. I never thought I'd end up at Saint Joes, but I can't imagine myself anywhere else. When they say "everything happens for a reason," it truly does, you'll see.

You only have a small amount of time left, have fun with your friends. When the summer ends you guys will go your separate ways and you'll only have the memories you shared to get you through. Let them know that you appreciate them, for everything you've been through these past four years. Go out to see a movie, go bowling, do something fun!

Spend time with your parents. You'll miss them when you're away. I know sometimes you just want your freedom, but don't worry you'll get that in college. What you won't get is your parents, they won't be there to do everything for you like they do now. Enjoy home cooked meals, but also your favorite restaurants. As a New Yorker, there is nothing like NY pizza and bagels.

Don't rush these next few months, because you'll miss it when it's over. It's gonna be an emotional roller coaster from here on out. You'll experience many last. The last time you play on your high school team, the last time you'll sing at mass, the last time you'll go to prom, your last day of school. It may sound like a lot now, but you'll get through it.

When you do get through it, college is on the other side of that rainbow. You're on to the next four years (hopefully the best) of your life. It won't be easy trust me, getting your freedom isn't all its made to be. There will be some rough days, where you miss home and your friends. Some days you're overwhelmed with readings and doing laundry and sleeping. I can't say that you're going to talk to your best friends every day, you're living different lives now. What I can say is that you'll make new friends and get involved in activities you love. And reuniting with your best friends on breaks will be that much sweeter, trading your favorite stories.

People always say college is a time to find yourself and experience new things. You'll be exposed to a new world filled with good days and bad days. So cherish high school before you get one step closer to the real world. Enjoy being a kid for just a few more months, before you're on your own. Don't forget to be proud of yourself, look how far you've come. Good luck!

Sincerely,

A College Freshmen

For those long nights that turn into mornings when the struggle is real.

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

28 Daily Thoughts of College Students

"I want to thank Google, Wikipedia, and whoever else invented copy and paste. Thank you."

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate
Mental Floss

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

As this semester wraps up, students can’t help but be stressed about finals. After all, our GPAs depends on these grades! What student isn’t worrying about their finals right now? It’s “goodbye social life, hello library” time from now until the end of finals week.

1. Finals are weeks away, I’m sure I’ll be ready for them when they come.
