Dear 2015,
People might always say, “What’s in the past is in the past.” I believe that in many cases. 2015 was a major year in my life, though, it was the year that changed everything. The year that I graduated from High School and transformed into College. 2015 definitely threw many struggles my way. I believed I handled them well. Here are some lessons, I learned.
Everyone has a bad day once and awhile.
There is a quote that says, “It’s just a bad day, not a bad life.” This is a very accurate quote. Just because you have one bad day, doesn’t mean you should give up. You have to get up and dust yourself off, and not let a bad day bother you. You have to rise above and move on.
Follow your heart.
Don’t let anyone opinion change your feelings on anything. If you want something go after it. Whether it’s that boy you think is cute, or something you’ve always dreamed of. Don’t let anyone change your thoughts, go after what you want and don’t stop until you have it.
People change.
As much as you love or loved your friends, people change. As much as you don’t want it to happen, it still happens. This usually happens when you enter college, but at the end of the day those who mean the most will always be at your side.
Friends are important.
It's important to have your home friends and your college friends. This year has introduced me to many different people entering college. I would honestly be lost without the friends I've met so far in college. Although, I am also very lucky to have such amazing best friends in my hometown also.
Time Management.
This year, I definitely learned a lot about time management, it is extremely important to space your time out properly. Entering a new chapter in my life with college, I definitely had to learn the importance of time and getting work done.
You have to find strength.
This year definitely threw some major obstacles at my family. Finding the strength to overcome it, was definitely an important way to get through it. Life doesn't always go as planned, but it's the way you handle and the support of the people around that's important.
You do not owe anybody anything.
Don't let anyone define your happiness, that being said when you make a decision and stick to it. People need to learn that they don't always get what they want. They can be mad and try to make you feel bad and apologize. You have to do what you believe is right and if they still bother you. They aren't worth your time.
You'll meet the best people in college.
I know I already talked about friends above, but I really believe that this is one is important. When I entered a new world of college, I didn't know the type of people I would meet. I could honestly say the people I met in college, are the best people and my best friends. I would be completely lost without them. I've only known them for a few months, but it feels like it's been years.
The importance of coffee.
This is a strange lesson, but it is definitely one I learned this year. Caffeine is always needed. Even if it means having 2 cups of a coffee a day.
Do something that will make you smile.
This is an important one. When you're trying to figure out if you like your major, or if you're in the processing of finding a major. Take time to figure out if this major will be something that you would love doing in a career one day.
The importance of family.
Family is very important, and it is always good to find time for them. They are the ones that have known you your whole life. The ones that have been through all the rough patches with you. That being said, always finding time for them is very important.
Do not forget where you came from.
At the end of the day, don't forget where you came from. Always find time for your friends at home. They were the ones that were with you through it all. Especially during school breaks, make time to go and see your friends. My friend Leeanne recently said, "This is like 8th grade but we are less ugly." These friends were the ones that were with you during the awkward middle school days, and the ones who you hugged after high school graduation.
2015 definitely was a crazy year. I can honestly say that I grew and matured a lot this year. This year was full of many laughs and many tears with people who mean the most. This year I definitely learned a lot about myself. It will also be a year, that will forever be in my heart. So here's to 2016, a year that is hopefully full of health and happiness for my family, friends, and myself.
Sincerely
Kristin
